I have owned my Sony XGA VPL-EX100 projector for about a year and used it about a dozen times. When I push the on/standby button it goes from solid red to flashing green, the fans come on, the bulb begins to go on, then the bulb flashes and goes off, the fans stop and the on/standby button flashes red four times, then pauses, then four more times, then pauses, etc. The filter is clean. What is the problem? Thank you.
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

A Flashing Red ON/STANDBY LED means one of the following

4 Flashes - The fan is broken
6 Flashes - The internal electrical system has failed.
There is no entry in the manual for 12 red flashes.

Hi,
Related service manual does not have 12 times red light blink error code details but in my opinion, it sounds temp sensor problem that is sending false signal to system control chip and preventing projector to power up.
This projector has at least 4 temp sensors inside and I would recommend to send it in nearest Sony service center for fix as it is not user level repair and requires qualified person to look into.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.
