Question about Pentax Optio 50 Digital Camera

3 Answers

Lens error I can switch my camera on. The screen at the back comes up with the Optio screen display, v1.01. Then the screen says 'Lens error'. I hear no attempt by the camera to push the lense out. Then the camera goes off, the screen a the back goes black. I have not dropped or damaged my camera in anyway. Any ideas? Thanks

I have the same problem, just purchased it. it takes beautiful pictures but now the lens won't close and the camera shuts off.

I dropped my camara and lenses got stuck in the middle between open and closing.
I have opened the camera up to the very mechanism that opens, closes the lenses. I found a plastic gear attached to the electric motor broken. I have three choices, Buy a new camera (Too expensive), get an spare part to replace the damaged one or to make a clone of the mentioned gear.
Do anyone has some experience on any of the last two options?
Any comments will be very much appreciated

I had the same problem with my optio 50 last year. The lense was stuck out, sent it to have estimate, reported to be over $100 to fix. I said NO, and to send camera back. Got camera back with lense still out, no matter what I did, so, what did I have to loose, I tapped a corner of the camera body against a hard surface and VOILA ! the lense retracted and I could use it happily for another year. WARNING!!!!!!!! Here it is a year later and now the camera has black lcd, can display pictures previously taken, with out the comuter. LCD must be ok, but some posted a certain chip problem..oh, well, I had an extra year.....Good luck, you know it is a risk!

Its most likely the motor have you tryed pulling it appart then cleaning the motor that might do the trick? if not then you will need to buy a peplacement motor

If it is a new[ish] purchase send it back via the seller. It may be an issue with the particular model. Get onto Pentax Tech support Team- See what happens- if it is an issue then a replacement free or at moderate cost may be available. If the camera is older -there will be no economic repair option.

When I switch camera on, lens comes out but no screen display and I hear a hissing noise. Any idea what is wrong

Hi there,

Unfortunately it sounds like a hardware problem.
Just to make sure, let's reset the camera.

Take the battery out, leave it out for 24 hours.

Put it back in, turn on the camera, and see if it works.

If not, it is indeed a hardware problem, and you have no choice but to send it in to be repaired.

Hope I helped!

Pentax Optio 50 Digital Camera Lens Error

Not really, it sounds like the lens has been bumped while it was extended. Unfortunately, the "buzz" you hear is the gears stripping one another. The only fix is to have the lens assembly replaced, which usually costs upwards of $200. I see this problem at least 3 times a week in my shop.

Pentax Optio 555 LCD screen blank problem

No I don't believe it is your shutter, more than likely it is a LCD Screen problem. I would suggest you take your camera back to the shop where you purchased the camera and have it serviced under warranty. I had a customer with an Optio 550 come in and it looked like every shot was taken through 'venetian blinds' and the problem was with the LCD Screen and the camera was sent back to Pentax and repaired under warranty.
