The host backup application probably still has ownership of the library. You normally need to select to 'open door' or something similar to release ownership back to the library

You need to "unlock" the door.
In Backup Exec, go to the Devices tab.
Expand Robotic Libraries and locate the library.
Right click on the library, then select Unlock and wait for the job to complete.
You can read teh full details on how to do this here:

Quantum superloader 3 drive error type

Hi Ulrike

I suspect that your backup software has "locked" the drive / library from the front panel.

This is why disconnecting / rebooting the library solves the issue.

If you are using backup exec or similar, try going to devices, selecting the library, right click and "unlock" before using the front panel buttons.
You could also use BUEX to do the tape moves for you instead of even touching the front panel.

The library picker arm cannot move to the home position. There could be something blocking it. Try the Reset option from the Configuration menu. This is detailed in the library user guide.

Cartridge error: 50C and Hardward Error: 502

The "clear tape" that you are playing with is called the "encoder strip." A barcode is etched on it that tells the printer carriage where it is. If you clean this carefully (google encoder strip for best methods) you may be able to get rid of 502 error for a while.

Not sure about 50c.

Quantum superloader not showing in windows device manager

First off, I have to say that I have had nightmares with Quantum tape libraries. It is possible that they are still manufacturing lemons. I had one replaced 4-times and it still did not work!

Start troubleshooting by making sure that it is identified by the controller card it is connected to. You should see this during the server POST before Windows starts. If you don't see it there then Windows definitely won't see it. Send it to Quantum for service.

If the controller sees it then make sure that you are using the Backup Exec drivers. Never use the manufacturer's drivers with Backup Exec. Veritas, now Symantec, has a downloadable utility called the Device Driver Installation Wizard that will make sure you have the correct driver loaded.

I hope this helps.

then it is not the scsi card .
tape first.
then get the drive rebuilt.
keep a spare drive on hand after all, is not backup a key function in any data center./? or small business, be ready?

Try changing the autoloader SCSI ID and the tape drive SCSI ID at the front panel:

Use this option to view or change the SCSI IDs used by the autoloader. The autoloader occupies two SCSI
IDs, one ID is assigned to the autoloader and the second ID is assigned to the tape drive.
The default SCSI ID for the autoloader's SCSI controller is 0. The default SCSI ID for the tape drive is 5.
You only need to change a SCSI ID if there is another device, or devices, already assigned to these IDs.
NOTE: This option is primarily used if the autoloader is in an error state. However, any
backups that have not been verified as complete should be considered lost.
NOTE: If you changed the SCSI ID, you may also need to cycle power on the host
system and reconfigure your backup software before you can use the
autoloader. Consult your hardware and software manuals for more information.
