Re: Sony DRU 710 not writing DVDs or CDs
As with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking Sony for any firmware updates, but first:-
Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall.
Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays

most sony CD and DVD players have a digital signature design to play CDs and DVDs that are original and licensed. some CDs or DVDs dont work since the player does not recognize or scan any digital signature embedded in the CD or a DVD. 2nd, lens problem causes most players not to read CDs nor DVDs. you can try to buy CD or DVD lens cleaners to have your lens cleaned.
hello, you can solve this by opening the back cover of the DVD player. first clean the lens with a dry cotton bud to clean the lens , you have to do this with care because the lens is fragile. secondly, power on the player and check if the lens beam up a red light, if it does not the problem could be from the ribbon cable use to connect the lens to the printed circuit board or the lens may be faulty, replace to confirm the faulty one. take care...
Please clean laser lens with good quality cotton bud gently and check dvd disc playback, if still does not play, replace optical lens block. Let me know model number of your Sony DVD-VCR combo to provide you optical laser block part number info. Thanks.
i have same problem. i tried to fix it myself but didnt work its the problem of dvd-writer no problem with software, i know becoz i took my friend's dvd-writer and its woking absolute fine, so better take it to some hardware repair shop.
Sounds like you may need a new drive. If I remember correctly those run about $100 and if you feel confident and read the directions (and research it correctly on the internet) you should be able to install it yourself.
