1: There's a problem with the power supply. Try unplugging the power supply from the wall and the system for 10 seconds, then connect it once more. There should be a little light on one end of the big box thing between the cord to the wall and to the system. Turn your system on and watch the light, if it is green, then that part is okay. Try replacing the wires on either end of the box (or use a friend's which is cheaper ;P). If this doesn't fix it then you have a problem, see 2.
2: You have a hardware issue somewhere inside the console. There's nothing you can really do about this without voiding your warranty. Call Microsoft and get a repair order for it. You'll have to send it off to the them, but if your Warranty is still good, they'll fix it free. If not they will charge you the repair costs. You are of course free to cry softly over the problem, as i did when faced with the red ring of death.
Unfortunately the Xbox 360 will need to be professionally repaired.
These red light errors usually happen with little warning. Sometimes you may see strange colors or it will start to freeze, however often times it strikes without warning.
The main cause of the red light errors is overheating. In the future try to keep the console in a well ventilated area and always play with the console standing upright rather than laying flat. When the Xbox 360 lays flat the entire bottom surface area gets very little air flow, causing the console to run much hotter than if it is upright.
If your warranty is up or you just don't feel like dealing with Microsoft; the company I work for GATpro Repairs offers a flat rate repair service. We even pay for return shipping. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Here it is. The two red lights is a "general hardware failure" but I find most of the time it is the CPU's fault. This happens when the CPU is not kept cool enough so the Xbox shuts down to prevent overheating. Basically it's the same deal as the RROD. To fix it you should do this:
A) Send it to Microsoft for repairs if you're still covered. B) Send it to a trusted Xbox Repair center. I currently run one called DRAGONF1R3 REPAIRS. C) Go online and purchase a RROD X-Clamp fix kit. This should come with instructions on how to fix your X-box 360 by yourself and the Hardware you will need.
These are your three best options. If you need more information on my Repair service feel free to e-mail me. (my e-mail is in my description)
This is a common fault with the 360, it says that its a "general hardware failure" which could mean anything
really. In truth its the lead free solder that cracks with so much heat and as a result the Xbox 360 fails
causing the 3rrod (3 red rings of death) or e74 or even no sound but graphics or sound and no graphics just like you are reporting.
you need to look up the 3rrod repair fix and either attempt yourself or get someone to do this for you. If you want me to provide a free guide just email me and ill gladly help all i can.
well if you have no green light you have no power check on the big ol brick and see if theres a light on it if no light present try another elecric plug ....still nothing you may need a new power supply they run abouth 20 bucks on ebay....if you ahave a friend that lives close buy take your 360 over there and hook it up if it works your power supply is bad if still nothing you have a power issue with your 360
This exact thing is happening to not only me but to also a friend of mine. You will probably notice that the fan kicks on really high and then goes to 2 flashing red lights, this is because the 360 is overheating or thinks its overheating. My friend's 360 starts up with the fan kicked on high and then only plays for a minute or 2, followed by the 2 red lights. If its under warranty send it back to Microsoft, I took mine and my friends 360 apart and replaced the thermal paste with arctic silver, but it kind of only helped a little for mine and not at all for my friends. SEND IT BACK!!!!!!
