My generator does not sense utility power so it runs all the time when set on auto

Tranfer switch seems to work fine. If I shut off utility power it will tranfer to generator power. N1 and N2 do have 240 vac at generator and the transformer is fine. For some reason when the generator is set to auto it does not sense utility power so it starts up. If power is out the transfer switch engages. I then go outside and manualy start generator and it will feed generator load center. This is the type of tranfer switch with the built in 12 circuit load sensor. Part #0a1801 (battery charger assembly) has seemed to overheat. The plastic it slightly melted.

That sounds just about right, if the relay contacts get welded together it sometimes takes out the driver on the printed circuit board. As you found out, 12vdc from 23 to 194 makes the transfer switch move to the Generator position, relay not energized makes the ATS move to the Normal position.

You can make a nice test function by installing a 10 amp contact switch in series with either the N1 or N2 terminals. When the switch is open the generator thinks the Normal power has failed.

Carl

SOURCE: Generac 4456 does not start on power loss

I install and work on these everyday. If you hooked up the transfer switch you probable have a control wire wrong. check the utility power sense wire. That lets it no when to start in auto. it could be a relay or fuses. or a control board.

Generac Guardian Standby Generator 04760 15KW LP won't stay running

Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.

One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.

On loss of utility power, Koehler residential generator (new) automatically starts up but then shuts down within seconds with ac sens loss fault; only behaves like that on loss of utility power.

I would think it's not wired in right. The Shore power sensor circuit may be tied in to Generator power. Control panel would bypass this shore power sensing circuit.

I have an RV with an Onan 4000 Genset. I have no power to the generator switch. I found that my hot wire from my battery had fallen onto my tailpipe and possibly caused damage to the generator.

  • The completely automatic transfer switch monitors incoming voltage from the utility line, around the clock.
  • When utility power is interrupted, the automatic transfer switch immediately senses the problem and signals the generator to start.
  • Once the generator is running at proper speed, the automatic transfer switch safely shuts off the utility line and simultaneously opens the generator power line from the generator.
  • Within seconds, your generator system begins supplying electricity to the critical emergency circuits of your home or business. The transfer switch continues to monitor the utility line conditions.
  • When the automatic transfer switch senses the utility line voltage has returned at a steady state, it re-transfers the electrical load back to the utility line and resumes monitoring for subsequent utility loss. The generator will continue to run for an engine cool-down period of several minutes while the entire system stands ready for the next power outage.

Generac generator won't turn off in automatic

It is possibly a transfer switch issue, not the generator control board. Have an electrican kill utility power, let it start and run, then disconnect the sensing wires in the ATS. If it stops problem is ATS
