Have tried to get it to work using the correct sequence of buttons but it will not recognize the controllers, I sent the orginal xbox360 back because of red light issues and they sent me a replacement, this unit will not recognize my controllers. Thanx -doug
If it will recognise wired controlers but not wireless controlers then there might be a problem with the wireless chip inside the xbox my advice is to send it back to microsoft and ask for another or ask for your money back and go to game, gamestation, hmv, somewhere like that

If you have an xbox slim model then there is a button above the USB slots at the bottom. Press Start and Back on the controller until the center button lights up. Then press the button above the two USB solts and hold it for a couple secs.
If you have n old xbox there should be a simliar button some where.
Also if you bought one of the charging packs for the controller, use the cord that came with it.
Thank you for your time, Good luck and I hope it works.
The guide button won't work until its synced, you need to push the button on the console to look for controllers then the button on the controller and it will sync it and then it should work fine. If that doesn't work then try hitting the button on the controller first then the one on the console.

If this
resolves the problem, you will need to replace the hard drive.
If not, do the same thing for your memory units. If it works without them, the they may be bad.
Let me know the results, and if I can be of further assistance.
Try this: Under heading "How can I change the screen positions for my wireless controllers?" http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/supportfaq.htm
Turn off your Xbox 360 console and any connected Xbox 360 wireless controllers.
(To
turn off your wireless controller, power down the system and wait for
the lights around the controller's Xbox Guide button to disappear.)
Manually turn on your Xbox 360—don't use your controller's Xbox Guide button.
Press
the connect button on the front of your console. This is the small
button just to the right of (or below, if your console is on its side)
the port for Memory Unit B. The lights around the console's power button will flash as the console searches for a wireless controller.
Press and hold the Xbox Guide button to turn on the wireless controller that you want to assign to slot one.
Once
the controller is on and the lights are still circling the power button
on the console, press your controller's connect button, located just to
the right of the charge port.
When the lights on your controller
stop spinning, the wireless controller is configured to slot one and
the upper-left quadrant light will glow.
Select the controller you want in slot two and repeat steps 4 and 5. You can configure up to four wireless controllers.
If your controller is just blinking you must press the small button on your xbox and at the same time press the small button on the back of your xbox controller and the xbox will pick controller signal.
