SOURCE: Brother Laser Printer MFC-7420

Ok I fixed this problem. It has to do with Tension on the rod inside the back cover. Open the back cover and remove it. Then emove the black plastic piece by un hooking it on the left side and pull it down then toward you. You will see a rod attached to it that runs to the right. The right end of the rod has a lever that travels in a slot on the right side of the printer. There is a small spring on the rod. Here lies your problem. There has to be enough tension on this spring to activate a switch in the slot on the right side of the printer. Make sure the spring is installed properly. This is a low tension spring so nothing will come flying out when you remoe it and re install it properly. A piece of paper can dislodge this spring. When you get it apart you can quickly see how it should be put back in. E-mail me if you need further help [email protected]

SOURCE: I can't find the back door sensor on Brother MFC-7420

I have the answer. I just fixed mine. The sensor is not really on the door. You have to remove the door by openning it all the way and carefully sliding it out ( one of the pegs holding the door is hourglass shaped. This will slide out first. The other is round. You will see a black flap that covers a red drum. Pull the flap down carefully. There will be a six inch long rod it's about 1/8 of an inch in diameter. It extends from the middle of the flap all the way to the right side. This probably popped out of place. Make sure that it is all the way to the right as this is where the sensor is. There is a little spring on the bar on the left side. This should be straight up and down. if it is not, then you need to fiddle with the bar.
The trick was that the sensor is NOT on the door, but on this inner flap. When the door closes it pushes this flap agains the drum and the little bar activates the sensor.
Please do not applaud so loud, you are ambarrazing me!!! hehehe. Good luck!.

SOURCE: Printer won't work

What it really means is that another piece of paper is still stuck in the printer, closer to the back. Pull out the paper tray and open the back to look again.

SOURCE: brother all-in-one printer not working; error 'back door open'

Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner.

There should be a paperjam in the machine. It reads back cover open because the piece of paper is covering the sensor for the back cover.

Printer brand brother model DCP-J125. does not working properly, Close ink cover has appear the LCD monitor

The sensor for this is actually used for both the scanner cover and the ink cover,
there are two flags that both must sit into the sensor to reach a ready state.

If you examine the ink cover there's a small piece of plastic that paths into a hole on the machines frame. This piece of plastic pushes a small black plastic flag that tells the sensor the door is closed.

If it's constantly telling you to close the ink cover inspect both the cover itself to verify that piece of plastic isn't broken and is going into the hole; and look inside and verify the flag isn't broken or damaged (flashlight and a small eyeglass screwdriver help here)

Either can be fixed for cheap at any reputable printer repair shop, I would look for a brother warranty place even if it's out of warranty as they'll be more likely to have donor machines sitting around for spare parts.

Brother HL-4070CDW error reads print unable 32 turn off power and restart, but won't print. I am unable to print anything.

Same thing on my printer. The density sensor door was sticking open against the springloaded solenoid. Simply remove the power supply assembly from the back of the printer (search for the service manual online; it has instructions under section 14 on how to do this; make sure to disconnect the four large red wires and the three connectors on the right hand side of the unit before pulling it out). Find the little solenoid on it that pulls the density sensor door open and you will see it will stick to the tape on the solenoid (bad design on Brother's part). Use alcohol to remove the sticky stuff from the solenoid and the sensor door and you can put some small single sided sticky tape back onto the solenoid to act as a cushion. Then double check the sensor door opens and close without sticking by manually moving it open and letting it go. If it goes back to closed without sticking, you are good to go. Re-assemble everything and your printer is fixed!

Printer was saying clean scanner i open the back cover and clean i close cover and restart and is saying close back cover.not working. i cannot get no service of fax, printing and copying.

You need to clean the scanner glass where your original feeds into the fax.Sounds as if the sensor for the rear door is faulty or the back door is warped. This is a common problem on certain Brother machines and i would suggest that you take it to a dealer for repair.

Brother (photocopier, fax and scanner machine) says << back cover open. close back cover>> but the back cover (or at least what i think is the back cover) is closed. I even opened and closed it...

I have fixed this problem on my 7820n printer by brother.

open the back door, then inside there will be a black colored other kind of like door that pulls back away from the roller. on this inner door is a black long thin plastic lever that runs from about the center of the inner door to the right. on the right end of it is a lever that slides along a curved increase on the right side wall. when both doors are closed this right end of the rod or lever moves up to close the gap between what is the sensor. this long thin plastic rod had snapped out of place and when i snapped it back in making sure the spring was correctly installed on the left end of it and the middle part of the rod slid correctly in its groove...the right end of the lever correctly closed the gap on the sensor (when both doors are closed) and the back door open error went away.

So that's how you really fix it!!!!

Machine says back cover open and opening the cover then closing it does not fix it I have a dhcp 720

There is a sensor lever on the black guide that goes into a sensor on the right as you face the back. This guide is closed by the back door. If that lever is out of place it will always say back door open.
