The computer may be programmed to do a monitor shut off after lets say 20 minutes. This is a power saving feature of the operating system. Open Power Options under Control Panel.. select the drop down combo box that says "Turn off monitor" : set it to NEVER.
Have you checked the light on your power supply? My monitor will go black and I noticed the light on my AC power supply was off. It was very hot so I unplugged it and let it cool down. When I plugged it back in my monitor worked fine until the power supply started to over heat again.
