I have had my pc checked out and the firewire, pci and video/graphics card are all working perfectly, I have also downloaded windows xp codecs and run dxdiag and sfc which show no errors, any ideas and solutins welcome, am getting really peed off witht the thing now

You can connect camcorder with Acer Aspire using a USB port and cable.
But this interface only allows transfer of still images from the SD card on the camera. It will not allow video images to be transferred from the tape.
Some models of Acer also have flywire interface (IEEE1394) and also SD card reader. You can use these also to download video images from the camcorder.
I have had this camera for around 4 years now. It works fine. I basically plug in the firewire connection on my camera switch it on to playback/camera mode then plug the other end into to my computer my operating system picks it up fine without any problems. It doesn't require any drivers windows will auto install any drivers it needs. Not sure why you are getting this problem.
I have one of these. Sounds like you have a fault. Try removing the battery and any tapes. Also you might want to try and replacing the penny size battery it has which keeps the time and date up to date.
When did it last work and what did you last do with it. eg. if you've taken it out of a cold storage such as a loft and then into a warm place you might find that it fails to work because of condensation build up in the internal circuits. Keep it it a warm place for a while and see if it makes any difference.
I use Pinnacle Studio versions 9 and 10 without any problems. The software sees the camera MV700i and controlls the playback etc.
Have also used Ulead Movie Factory without any problems, but its a little harder when it comes to editing the output.
