Op the ink cartridge protective door located above the ink cartridges. remove both cartridges. look at the white ribbon cable that connects to each cartridge. You will see gold dotted connections. look closely for a small hole in the cable . This hole is caused by the spring that holds the cartrdges in. Sometimes people force the cartridge in puncturing this ribbon cable. It is a poor design by HP . The error code will usually say ink cartridge door not closed. Unfortunately the assembly is fairly difficult to replace and can cost as much as to printer. If you bought new cartridges, buy asimilar unit which uses the same cartridges. Then at least its not a total loss. Scrivitron

Hp laserjet m1522nf

Copy function was not working, says "device is busy". Message appeared on the printer screen is:"scanner error 5, turn off then on". This was done several times and message still appeared. I called 866-625-1176 and was connected with HP Technical Support and after 20 - 25 minutes of diagnostics, the technician informed me that they were sending me a new printer at no charge. I assume this meant that HP is aware of the defect and has no solution other than to replace it. The printer was only 6 months old.

My HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One keeps giving me the error message - Scanner failure - Turn power off then on. Turning power off then on, even disconnecting power cord, repeatedly does not solve problem.

Our HP Officejet L7780 displays the "Align Printer" message and then does it automatically wasting several sheets of paper aligning, then the next time we print a page the same message comes back. Is there a way to turn off the "align Printer" message. It is printing ok otherwise.
