Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 DVD Camcorder

2 Answers

Format Error I filled up a sony DVD-RW disc (1.4GB) with video and pictures now I can't access it with my Sony DCR-DVD403 camera. It keeps giving me a 'Format Error' message but won't do anything else. I definately don't want to format it and lose what is on the disc. Is there any solution to make sure that I can watch/transfer the video and pictures?

This happens to me ALOT with this camera! I was watching footage I had taped last directly on the LCD screen and out of now where the "door opening" symbol came on, then the camera turned of when the DVD door opened. I turned it back on and sure enough: Format Error. I didn't touch the open button, it just did it on it's own. Now ImageMixer won't recognize because it's not formatted, but I need what's on there... any suggestions??

First option would be to attempt to read the disk in another DVD player, for example on a PC. If that succeeds then transferring the data can be done via the PC. Another thing to try is to reset your Camcorder - refer to the manual to locate the switch and then try again. If neither works then re-formatting is probably the only answer. Always format the disks in the camcorder - not elsewhere.Good luck.

Sony DCR-DVD403 C 13:02 Error Message so won't record movies.

Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc

Disc error when loading new disc

miniDVD camcorders are extremely picky about what discs they will accept. In the user manual or on the camcorder, it should say if it is R or RW. Also, there is a difference in DVD- and DVD+ Make sure that you are using the appropriate disc. I have had good luck with the brand Maxell. Sony will, most of the time, take this disc and then "recommend" that you use a Sony disc. If this does not solve the problem, you may have a bad laser assy.

Format error when i finalise the disk

If a FORMAT ERROR message is displayed, then the inserted disc is not formatted or it is recorded in a different format not useable by the camcorder. If using a DVD-RW or DVD+RW, format the disc prior to use. Otherwise, use a different disc.

I have a HANDYCAM SONY DCR-DVD 106, and I keep getting the following message error - "Disc error. Unsupported format - 13:023, with regard to a mini MEMOREX DVD-R.

Disc error. Unsupported format means that ur camera does not support the format of this disc it might not support DVD-R or DVD-RW and supports the DVD+R and +RW try the other format disc and let me know if it resolved , check the manual it is stated on the box or manual which format it supports, if it does not solve ur problem try some other brand instead of MEMOREX try sony,hp,fuji, philips and see actually these sony cameras they are sometimes locked by the manufacturer to only use the original discs for monopoly sony acts like that in every product

pls do rate me if i fixya problem

Sony DCR DVD101 Format Error

I had the same problem, but I didn't have any valueable data on the DVD-RW (which was a Sony brand disc, go figure...). So, I backed up all the videos on the disc, tried to format the disc to get it ready to be able to be used again, and got the whole "Access Error" when I was formatting the disc. I tried both the VR and Video format options, the Video option came back with teh "Access Error" while the VR option came back with "Format Error". I put the disc into my DVD burner in my computer and was going to try and format it manually. But, as the disc popped up in My Computer and I right-clicked on the disc icon, there were no options to format the disc, which is unusual. I tried it in a laptop that's about a year old (versus the other computer which was about 4 years old), and as I right-clicked on the disc, an option was entitled "Erase this CD-RW". Obviously this was not a CD-RW, but I tried it anyways, and bam, after about half a minute, the mini DVD-RW was formatted! After that, I put it in the Handycam DCR DVD101 drive, formatted it using the Video setting (my preference), and now it works.

So, moral of the story is...try and format the disc manually on a DVD burning enabled computer. If it doesn't work, try a newer computer. But that's all I have, hope this helps!

"Disc Error" reads on Sony Handycam DVR-R

I bought a program called "inDisc Recovery" that locates lost files and then saves them to your computer.

My LED screen got damaged, and I don't know how to finalize a mini disc in order to playback on computer and transfer to DVD. Can you tell me how to finalize the DVD-RW disc so I can play it back??

My LED is damaged too...don't know how it happened, but..if you hook your handycam to your TV - you can see the LED on the TV and know where to press on the LED to finalize.
