I just recently purchased a 2 gigabyte SanDisk memory card and when I put it in my camera it just says "error" then goes to a screen where it says "Format Media" and "Are you sure?" and if I press yes it just goes to the menu and if I say no, then it turns off. Then I turn the menu off and it says "error" again. Help! I need this memory card before I go to Australia on Friday!
Actually, I found out by stumbling across it online that my camera can't hold more than 512 mb of memory and my memory card is 2 gb. So I guess I'll just get a new one and try to return that one. I have the exact same problem, and i am also using a 2 GB memory card. when you used a 512 MB, did it work? I dont want to buy another one if it is not necessary. Thanks
Couple possibilities. first I would try formatting the card from a pc. do you buy any chance have a card reader for your computer. in xp you just right click on the card and format it. if that dosn't work there is a chance that the card is defective. go to the store you bought it and see if they can help you there. Sorry if that dosn't help. Have fun in Australia btw. And good luck

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.
A 4GB memory card will be an SDHC type. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.
The S50 uses SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card, and will not work in the S50. You will have to confine your choices to cards 2GB and smaller.
The lever on your SD card might be turned the wrong way so the SD card is reading protective.
Please turn the lever and try again.
The SD card might not be supported by the model: Your camera Memory card support is SD/MMC up to 2 Gigabyte and SDHC up to 8 Gigabyte
The SD card might not be faulty, try another card, since the camera could give you a message like the one you're experiencing.
Try with a different SD card that is supported by the camera.
Have your My Computer window open and re-insert the card into the reader. If it doesn't show immediately, then right click and choose refresh. It should show up then.
Hello, My son has the same camera with a 1 gigabyte Sandisk sd card. This allows him to store about 200 pictures at full resolution. The cards are very inexpensive. Here is a link to a 1gb card that is $8.28 on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Secure-Digital-SDSDB-1024-Package/dp/B000I5ZC3W/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210104172&sr=8-2 If you plan to take small movies I would get a 2 gig card. Videos use much more memory. This one is $11.88 from Amazon" http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Memory-Card-SDSDB-2048-Package/dp/B000J47W12/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210104517&sr=8-1 Costco also has great prices on SD memory. Important: Your camera will not accept cards larger than 2 gigabytes. If that helped please rate me well. Take Care, -WN
I recently bought a DMC-TZ3 and have been researching memory cards. Several sites sell cards with the camera and list the card type. I would suggest buying one of these cards. Any cards larger than 2gb must be SDHC type SD cards. There appear to different types of SDHC cards, 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. Check out Wikipedia.org for a description. 2.0 cards are not compatable for devices developed prior to 2.0 so that may be the reason for the camera problem. So far I haven't seen anything that states what type SDHC card the camera requires. I found a computer memory site that that sells memory that they say will work. There may be others. http://www.mymemory.co.uk/compatible-memory/Digital_Cameras/Panasonic/Panasonic_Lumix_DMC-TZ3
