Question about Epson Stylus Color 740 InkJet Printer
The paper feed light just blinks. It won't accept any print jobs. There doesn't seem to be any paper jammed.
If the Paper Out LED is flashing the machine believes there is paper in the machine. If you know there has not recently been a jam and paper was torn when it was removed then there may be a fault with the paper sensor. The most likely scenario is that there is something holding the paper sensor in the active position. This may be a torn piece of paper, or a foreign object that has fallen in. Easiest way to find out is remove the covers and the Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF) to check for objects and/or damaged sensor. The dismantling is straight forward and easy enough for anyone to do. If you are unsure about how to remove the covers and ASF get a service manual from http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com (if yours isi not listed, just ask them for it - they will have it) and use it to guide you through removing the parts. Once inside, look for the sensor paddle (flag) hanging down into the paper path on the home end (right side as you look from the front) If the flag is not hanging down it may just need a gentle pull or it may have got broken off. Again use the manual to help you reseat the flag. If it is broken you can rebuid the old one with a peice of modlers plastic (or even a drinking straw) and some glue. Obviously if you note any foreign objects in the mech, remove them. Reassemble and test it out.
