Question about Nakamichi PA-2002 Car Audio Amplifier

1990 Lexus LS400 Nakamichi Car Stero Amp problems

I recently went to have my aftermarket system "professionaly" installed in my car and they car audio store told me that i had a problem with my amplifier for that system... that is not the amp i am asking about but shortly after they ran my wires and told of this, my sound for my radio started to cut out and then went out all together. If you turn the volume up all of the way you can faintly hear the radio. So anyways I took in back to the place to hear what they had to say and they said that my factory amp for the nakamichi premium sound system had quit working or gave out. Now I didnt value what they had to say fully because of the poor work they had done running the wires from my aftermarket system, but as i looked around on the web it seems that it is very possible that my facory amp could have just took a turn for the worse (it is 17 years old). So what i am asking is how do you test a 1990 Nakamichi car stereo amp to see if indeed that is the problem? I have decided not to take my car back to that car audio place all together because of the poor customer service along with the equally poor work they did. Any useful feedback would be greatly appreciated, seeing as how i dont have any tunes at the time. Thanks alot, Kyle.

My sound went out today just as described. Normal operation for a while, then I heard a popping sound and the volume faded away. Now I have only a faint sound coming from the speakers at the rear of the car.

If the amp is damage it needs to be repaired or replace but the age of any amp doesn't matter, all are compatible to work.

Aftermarket head unit wont play with factory amp

It probably has a safety system where it won't let aftermarket systems work properly I would contact a local shop who installs aftermarket systems in cars and see if they can do anything for you.

97 lexus factory nakamichi amp draw

Are you sure that the amp is what is causing the current draw? Try pulling out the amp fuse and radio fuse in your fuse box and see if the battery still dies. But, I would go to a local car audio shop. The company that we used when I worked at the shop was United Radio, you might be able to contact them about a quote if it is shorted. Another option is searching ebay, or a scrap yard. I'm sure there are plenty out there somewhere. Good luck.
