I have a Nikon Coolpix P5100. It is brand new (two weeks old) I would send it back to the retailer but I am on holiday in Thailand. Yesterday the camera functioned perfectly; today when I tried to switch it on I could not. I have checked both the batteries I have and they are both fully charged. The camera has not been dropped or damaged in any way. One day it was working the next day it wasn’t. Does anyone have any suggestions please?
I had exactly the same problem last year after taking only 100 shots.
In my case the lens zoom stayed out, the power went off and never came on again.
I live in the UK but bought the camera in the USA. I travel there frequently, so not usually a problem purchasing and returning. Unfortunately Nikon USA refused to repair under warranty stating that I had abused the camera. I hadn't. After much argument they still refused to repair and I refused to pay for a repair. So stalemate. The camera is gathering dust. I will never buy Nikon again. Shame, it was a great camera for a few moments.
