Digital Camera Problem

I have a Nikon Coolpix P5100. It is brand new (two weeks old) I would send it back to the retailer but I am on holiday in Thailand. Yesterday the camera functioned perfectly; today when I tried to switch it on I could not. I have checked both the batteries I have and they are both fully charged. The camera has not been dropped or damaged in any way. One day it was working the next day it wasn’t. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I had exactly the same problem last year after taking only 100 shots.

In my case the lens zoom stayed out, the power went off and never came on again.

I live in the UK but bought the camera in the USA. I travel there frequently, so not usually a problem purchasing and returning. Unfortunately Nikon USA refused to repair under warranty stating that I had abused the camera. I hadn't. After much argument they still refused to repair and I refused to pay for a repair. So stalemate. The camera is gathering dust. I will never buy Nikon again. Shame, it was a great camera for a few moments.

Horizontal lines in photos..change in different lighting

Lines in the pictures are usually caused by a slow shutter mechanism that is located inside of the lens assembly. Since this is a relatively new camera you should have 1 year manufacturers warranty so you would need to send in for repairs. The shutter is not usually something that you would be able to repair yourself. I use Photo Tech in NYC, www.phototech.com, because they are the authorized Nikon service facility. You can also mail the camera back directly to Nikon for service either in CA or NY.
Make sure to include a copy of your sales receipt and a description of the problem with all of your contact information. They will repair at no charge as long as you did not do anything to cause the problem and it is less than 1 year old.

Good Luck,
Paul

Nikon Coolpix S8000 randomly shuts off during use. It is only 2 months old.

It's clearly faulty, there's nothing you can do to fix it.

Just return it to the retailer for refund or exchange or send it back to the manufacturer for a free warranty repair. Note that all bets are off if the camera has been exposed to moisture, shows impact damage or signs of any unauthorised repairs.

Need new charger for nikon coolpix p5100

You need an MH-61 charger. You can get one from your local authorized Nikon reseller, or online at http://www.nikonmall.com

If you're willing to take a chance on the third-party product, you can get one for about a third the price at http://www.overstock.com

Nikon Coolpix P5100 settings

Olympus cameras have an "all reset" function that can be toggled on or off in the menu. If "on", all settings are restored to default on boot up, if "off" then the last setting are kept on boot up. If the settings are supposed to be kept be design, but are not, then the capacitor or small battery on the main board needs to be replaced. Not user replaceable, usually soldered on or socketed but no simple access.
