A lot of the music files had got badly corrupted, so I reformatted it (using the system format) and resynced all the music. Looks like I have added quite a lot of new music since I last synced as there was only ~100 Mb when I'd finished (according to Konquerer). I then updated the database using iFish, which seemed to go OK, however now the iRiver will not start; it gets to the loading screen and just sits there 'till the battery runs out. I think the problem may be that there wasn't enough space for the database, so the device keeps trying to read to the end or something. However as it won't start fully, I can't delete anything or try reformatting again. I have tried the reset button - it just stops the device. Does anyone know of a way to fully reset the device ? Thanks Ben
Just a thought, try removing the battery, then holding the rest button in for about 15-30 seconds, release it, then re-attach the battery, if that don't work, try removing the battery, then re-attach the battery while holding in the reset button, then release the button after about 15 seconds. Konqueror?, That's a Linux based file manager/internet browser, is it on your PC or the iRiver? If it's on the iRiver, then the operating system is more likely Linux based, and removing the battery then re-attaching the battery while holding down the reset button, should!!! (not everything works as it should) reset the machine.

Are you sure about removing the battery ? I've been looking on some other forums it it's not a trivial step...
Konqueror is on the PC, used as a file explorer, recent versions automount and unmount the iRiver very nicely.
The device is still using iRiver Firmware (1.30 E)
H340; a FAQ I saw on another site suggested you had to remove the hard drive and circuit board before you could remove the battery.
Is there any chance your method might work if I ran the battery right down ?
