I have a whirlpool microwave/oven combination unit and the microwave won't work. There is now light and the buttons don't work. The oven is still fully functional. I live in an area where service is hard to get. I would like to fix it myself. I have read about other problems and it seems like this is wither a switch or fuse problem. If it is a switch or fuse problem, how do I get to the fuse/switch? I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

Re:
The most common causes of a microwave's being "dead" is a blown fuse and a blown thermal cutout (or thermostat) in the area of the magnetron.

Touchpad and Control Panel
If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad and control panel assembly are probably defective.
Touchpad
If the microwave buttons don't work the
touchpad might be at fault. Generally speaking, if the dishwasher
display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some
don't, the problem is with the touchpad.
User Control and Display Board
If the microwave buttons don't work the main
control board is most likely defective and will need to be replaced.

My Whirlpool/Roper microwave/hood combo has the same problem. I replaced the bulb twice, checked the bulb and it works, but not in the microwave. I wrote to Whirlpool asking about the problem. Haven't heard from them yet.

You have a short in one of the door safety switches
There function is prevent the oven to work whit the door
open
some are normally close and some normally open when one of then don’t work properly causes a
short and blow the main fuse check the all and replace the faulty one but be careful and don’t test the microwave
Whit the cover removed.
Note: if you have a blown
fuse buy several emplacement fuses because my take several trays to fix the
problem and you will need more than one fuse.
