There are three metrics that matter in e-commerce analytics: Traffic, Conversion Rate and Average Order Value.
With these three metrics you can determine your:
1. Orders = Traffic x Conversion Rate
2. Revenue = Traffic x Conversion Rate x Average Order Value
I liken these three valves on a trumpet let you hear a huge range of sounds, these three metrics can tell you a huge amount about how your store is performing.
There are many more metrics out there, but these are the foundation metrics. These are the key metrics that let you have an immediate insight into how you are performing.
Whatever Analytics package you are using, these three metrics should be at your heart. Worry about bounce rate, life-time value and other metrics once you have these foundations down.
The problem we have found with analytics packages is they don't let you set targets. Now, anyone who wants to grow their business knows the importance of targets. It's the first thing a bank manager will request of you if you ask for a loan: what's your goal for the year.
Yet nearly all analytics packages assume you want to compare how you are performing against the previous month or the previous year. An e-commerce company with growth at it's heart will look at it's performance over the previous year and with an understanding of how much is being invested into the business and how the business is growing set some targets.
Without goals being set, goals aren't going to get met.
Because most analytics tools don't let you set targets you find a lot of companies rely on spreadsheets which have to be regularly updated. Needless to say this is error prone and time wasting. Not ideal.

SOURCE: What do I need to know to build a eCommerce Site?

If you were asking from developer's point of view, the answer might be too complex. If you're new to website building, you won't want to jump into that before you tackle the basics. That is, HTML (basic framework of a webpage), CSS (formatting and styling) and a little bit of Javascript (functionality). The next step would be to learn about SQL and databases.

If you simply didn't familiar with programming, you can hire a dev instead, pay them to create an eCommerce site for you, and sit back thinking about your business plan.

Or you can sign up into eCommerce platform which designed to help people who want to build their online based business. eCommerce platform basically is a web based applications which you can use to create, host, and manage your own site even you don't have any experiences in web programming, sure you should pay for it, but these option is cheaper instead of hiring a part time programmer to maintain your site.

eCommerce business had to take over the traditional commerce which people can enjoying their ability to sell, shop, even just wanted to know about things they want to buy.
