Brand new cordless handset -- no dial tone, no ring!
I followed all instructions and all troubleshooting directions in booklet of this brand new GE 27851 2.4 GHz cordless phone. The answering machine works fine. The phone does not ring (the ringer is ON), there is no dial tone. The handset shows NO CALLS even when there has been a call and a msg recorded. I press TALK but there is silence. But it does beep.
THE CHARGER/IN USE LIGHT is either continously lighted or flashes intermittently.
I have fiddled with the battery pack a few times, replugged it in, as I suspect the problem lies there. It's been days since it was set up and surely the handset should be charged fully long before now.
I checked the line with another phone and it works. I am totally stumped!

I doubt it's the battery. As I understand it the base works fine and the problem is only with a cordless phone. Are you using an external charger stand for the cordless handset? These phones need to be registered to the base unit. That is usually done by installing the cordless phone in the base unit but you may need to do that shortly after insalling the battery or you could have a register button or setting.

this seems as if it,s incoming calls only. Check the line with an alternative Phone. This will verify the lines good. And eliminate that One.
Also check if theres A Tone/Pulse setting.
This can also have adverse effects.
If this is on an adaptor fitting with internet access, try removing the adaptor, and plugging the phone direct into the Socket.
Or try the phone on a seperate or diferent Socket.
I just purchased the Trimline Model 29265 phone and in the instructions it says that it can be wall mounted if you reverse the handset hook in the base? Where is the handset hook and how do you reverse it. Nothing in the instructions tells you where it is nor how to fix it.
2/29 Have you registered or re-registered the handset?
"No link" can mean handset is not accepting radio wave of base unit. At Mfgr website pull-down operator's manual and look for registration instructions. Some sequence of buttons will create a radio signal from base (have handset off base) then another sequence of buttons on handset will accept radio signal. If handset has "menu" button, try "menu", then "00" (zero zero) then select an accept or "OK" button. Good luck.
Per the instruction manual, there is supposed to be a switch on the base (look on the back or bottom) for TONE/PULSE mode.

Make sure the TONE/PULSE setting on the base is set to the type of phone service you are subscribed to.
