Question about Televison & Video
Watching football last night while playing cards- all of a sudden went to watch a play and the screen was black. Heard the plays as the sound works fine but the picture is gone. Tried to move connections around but could even see picture to change the input source. Is this common? This TV was bought new about 7 - 7.5 years ago. Is it worth fixing or can it be fixed
Not knowing brand and model number most of these sets have a 4-5 year life and parts for a set of this age may not be available.
The risk in repairing a set this old is it may just fail again and again.

It is worth fixing but you have to replace the power supply. It is a fairly common problem with the Westinghouse units.

You need the Y sustain and y drive boards. No idea where to purchase in australia, but you may be able to order them from LG.

What I found out is target has several manufactures that make the trutech products. I have the PLV16260. I called target @ 1800-440-0680 and was transfered to the electronics dept. They told me to look on the back label of the tv and there is a manufacturer name there. Mine was made by ALCO. Their number is 888-252-6352. I just spoke to them and they said the reason the screen is blank is that it is the power supply board. They informed me that if I ship it to them in Buffalo NY that they can repair it for 135.00. I had a repair person come out and they want over 300.00 to fix it. Shipping it will be a problem for me so I am checking to see if they have a replacement board I can buy and have someone install for me.
The other interesting thing they told me was that even though it is out of warranty - if it was not repairable they would replace it with a current model. It might be worth shipping.I am waitng for them to get back to me.
Hope this helps
