Are there any other Wi-Fi networks at the area? I suspect interferences in the channel. Log in the router's page, locate the wi-fi settings and change the channel from automatic to manual and select any of the 13 channels (usually). Check the result. In case of problem existing, change channel again until you find the better reception from the iPod.
In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution. Please consider leaving a 4-thumbs rating; I'd appreciate it greatly.
