When powering up, the detector goes through a short diagnostics test to make sure everything is working as expected. If there is a problem detected during this time, a message like the one you have displayed will appear. You should contact Beltronics Customer Support to arrange service with one of the methods listed at the bottom of this post.

Sounds like a bad piezo. (speaker) If you want to replace it yourself it's pretty simple if you can use a soldering iron. it's either 2 or 4 pionts to de-solder the old one. the make and model will be stamped on it. Then goto Google or yahoo and enter the make and model, you'll find tons of styles to choose from and or the exact replacement. Should be under 10 bucks. If you have any troubles with this, post a comment and I can help you some more. (note) I spent 16 years in the world of custom automotive electronics and audio & I still love this stuff. Hope this helps
This message is generated only after a Bel or Escort radar detector has repeatedly encountered problems while trying to self-calibrate its radar detection circuitry. The Service Required message literally means that you must send in your RD for service since there is nothing that can be done to fix whatever the problem is short of sending it in for factory service. At least it will come back working like brand new!
