If no battery door on this it is likely snapped together(the whole unit).
You should notice a seam all around the side and it would be in the middle of the side, careful prying may allow you to open it in two pieces where you would be able to see the batteries.
Thank you for the advice most helpful - I solved the problem, the entry was at the bottom, really fiddly and I managed to somehow squeeze a small half inch "lip" and force it out with a small screwdriver. Once out it was a small piece of plastic which looks fragile and was shaped in a 3/4 cirlcle where the battery sits. I changed the battery replaced it in reverse order. Dare I say, that when I tried to repeat the process I cannot, but at least I did change the battery. Thank you to the person who responded. Kindest regards Jack (aged 77 yrs).

There are no codes you program into the remotes unless they are learning remotes. If you did the manual search for the code, then the universal remote will not work on that unit I'm afraid. You see you are not entering the code into the remote when you push the numbers the book tells you to. What you are doing is accessing the pre programed codes that are already programed into the remote. You cannot add any codes for universal remotes unless like I said before, they are called learning type remotes. Those cost loads of cash. Good Luck

I have the same system and one of my dogs got to the remote. I have a philips PMDVR8/PDVR8 universal remote. I was able to get the dav-hdx265 to turn on/off and do volume up and down by using code 0200. I have not been able to get the DVD functionality to work yet, but I will post if I do.

Wait for about 5 sec.
[Without plug in power cord] Press and hold "Power" button without release it.
Plug in power cord (must have power) to main set by using another hand [while another hand still press on main set power button]
Keep holding until u see ------ on main set FL display.
Then release you hand which just now pressed on main set.
Power on main set again by manual press power button on main set.
Result should be OK (unlocked)
