Recently, I my batteries ran out of power and upon changing batteries, my recorder has been absolutly unresponsive when and after I try to record. After putting new batteries in, I would be able to listen to audio, but when I pushed the record button, it froze. I pushed the record button and it said REC, then when I pushed stop to end the recording, it had the file number of said recording (14) and AM 12:01 on the screen. Then when I push the play button, the red light over the DISPLAY text flashes. When I push stop, it flashes green and displays how much time is left (5 hours). It even let me cycle through recordings (but not listen to them), but then I pushed record again and the display got stuck on REC. Every time I reinsert the batteries, it does the same thing: lets me listen to recordings but freezes when I try to record.
Can't record on the my Olympus VN-1000
+ I press rec button and it just shows rec in display (no recording time is shown ONLY rec)
+ there is no play back or stop function
+ i can only stop rec by removing batteries (stop or play will stop rec only ONCE - but there is no useful function - such as play or stop or rec.)
+ I tried all trouble shooting tips in manual with no effect
+ i cleaned the spring contacts inside battery compartment that interface with the batteries
+ it was barely used - and has not been used for a 1 year ( no batteries were inside it )
it was inside a drawer
THANK YOU

If it won't PLAY VHS tapes it must have a serious mechanical problem (if it even loads) or its heads are glommed up, so it obviously won't record them either. When's the last time you ran a cleaning tape through it?
Solve the load or playback problem and it will probably record.
Time and poor storage conditions are the mortal enemies of tapes. Store the in a 'played

Usually answered in minutes!
And another time when I tried to record, I pressed stop then cycled through the folders and the file number went down to zero on each of them. (However, they are no deleted because I can still hear then if I take bateries out then put them back in.)
I have the same exact issue. After my batteries died and I installed new ones I can't record. It just freezes when I try. After I press record it acts like its recording and then does nothing. I have to take out the batteries and put them back in to make it do anything.
I have the same problem. And when I push rec button twice, the voice recorder becomes frezze! and I need quit the batteries and place again. I can't record.
I have the EXACT same problem and am going to try to call someone about it. I am writing a book and this has really interfered! I have the right batteries. When I push record, it is just unresponsive. I'm stuck.
I have the same problem even I replaced with new batteries, power on and off again. The first time I hit 'rec', it showes 'rec' and does nothing actually. After I hit 'stop' and it returns to normal. But if I hit 'rec' second time, it stalls in 'rec' and can't respond any key.
Airraid, you described my problem to the T !! If anyone can help, please let us know!! Thanks!
