Whirlpool front load dryer will not start

My Whirlpool front load dryer stopped heating. It would run through the entire cycle with no heat. The appliance repair man came and replaced the heating element. Dryer worked perfectly for one load. Second load the dryer will not come on at all. All lights come on. Technician tested the door latch by holding it in and pressing start, nothing. He said that he tested the fuse and it is not that. They are indicating that it is not worth fixing. But it is only 3 years old. Please Help!

Does your dryer have a reset switch on the back, usually a small red button, if it does press this and ten test dryer starts again.

Yes, get a new element. The reason it's on all the time is because the element coils have broken and one of the coils is touching the canister that encloses it. This creates a direct short to ground. By the way, the element has 120 volts to it all the time. It will only HEAT when 240 is applied through the centrifugal switch of the motor. Your 120 volts is shorting to ground... not enough amps to trip the circuit breaker, but enough to glow the element.

I had the same problem last month. My heater element broke in two places. This created an electrical open that prevented the heater from functioning. I replaced the heater element and my problem was solved.

In order to check your heater element: With the machine unplugged, disconnect one wire to the heater element and then use an ohm meter or multimeter across the heater element lugs to read resistance. Infinite ohms = open circuit.

SOURCE: Dryer Stopped Heating

Use a multimeter to check the heating element. You can't always go by looks. Check continuity and if there is none, the element is defective. Another thing to check is the thermal fuse. It is about an inch long and is usually attached to the exhaust duct. Use the meter to check it as well and if defective, replace it. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

I have a Whirlpool duet gas dryer model WGD9400SUO. I can hear the heat turn on but it no longer stays on.

Hi,

Please make sure that you've removed all of the lint from your dryer prior to every cycle. Next, try to see if the varying the load size effects whether your clothes are heated or not.

If all else fails, please schedule an inspection by Whirlpool by calling 1 (866) 698-2538. Thank you.

My Frigidaire dryer will not start. It shows a PF trouble code. What does this mean?

PF is showing you that there is a power problem. Check your dryer circuit breaker at the power panel. This can be a sing that one of the 2 breakers has tripped. Push the CB hard to OFF and then back to ON. Then try and start your dryer. If that does not work just respond here and I will help you.

Try selecting "No Heat" after resetting the CB and see if the dryer starts. If it does you could have a bad heating element that caused the breaker to trip to begin with. Sometimes when the heating element fails the broken link will contact the chassis and cause the CB to trip. Heating element failures are usually caused by poor airflow. You may want to look for any signs of lint in your dryer to include the lint filter area and all the way to the outside wall exhaust point.

No heat during drying cycle

your heating element or the thermostats that control the heating element could be bad. research no heat for your make of dryer, it should show how to ohm the thermostats and element for fault. They should all read 000 when ohmed. 000 being a complete circuit. I have been having thermal fuse problems with my whirlpool dryer, so I'm learning as I go.

Element heats, dryer tumbles, no heat in drum, never shuts off

Hi, If the dryer heats but will not advance in either time or auto cycles, you need to change the timer.
You can test to see if the timer is getting voltage. Remove the top rear panel and locate the two wires going to the timer motor. There should be 120V when the dryer is running in time dry.
Please let me know if this helps or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

The heating compenent works, but drum won't spin

Have you checked the belt? That's generally the problem when a dryer stops spinning.

Dryer runs but will not heat. Replaced fuse and

your cycling thermostat needs changed too. the thermal fuse is your last safety measure that goes, which means your cycling thermostat is not shutting down the heat element once it detects the right temp hot air in the blower housing so it let the heat element glow until either the high-limit sensor shuts the heat down or the thermal fuse blows. Change the cycling thermostat and good luck

Inside of the dryer is cracking- huge holes!

the drum can be replaced but dont know if you want to pay for one they are probably expensive and 2nd if it is taking 2 to 3 times to dry clothes you have a vent problem which has caused the cracking of the drum probably cause so much heat build up in the machine your vent is stopped up and it isnt keeping the heat and moisture in the dryer which is a fire hazard please call a technician and please rate this
