My Whirlpool front load dryer stopped heating. It would run through the entire cycle with no heat. The appliance repair man came and replaced the heating element. Dryer worked perfectly for one load. Second load the dryer will not come on at all. All lights come on. Technician tested the door latch by holding it in and pressing start, nothing. He said that he tested the fuse and it is not that. They are indicating that it is not worth fixing. But it is only 3 years old. Please Help!

Yes, get a new element. The reason it's on all the time is because the element coils have broken and one of the coils is touching the canister that encloses it. This creates a direct short to ground. By the way, the element has 120 volts to it all the time. It will only HEAT when 240 is applied through the centrifugal switch of the motor. Your 120 volts is shorting to ground... not enough amps to trip the circuit breaker, but enough to glow the element.

I had the same problem last month. My heater element broke in two places. This created an electrical open that prevented the heater from functioning. I replaced the heater element and my problem was solved.
In order to check your heater element: With the machine unplugged, disconnect one wire to the heater element and then use an ohm meter or multimeter across the heater element lugs to read resistance. Infinite ohms = open circuit.

Use a multimeter to check the heating element. You can't always go by looks. Check continuity and if there is none, the element is defective. Another thing to check is the thermal fuse. It is about an inch long and is usually attached to the exhaust duct. Use the meter to check it as well and if defective, replace it. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.
