Lous Noise Air Conditioner makes a loud rattling noise when turned on. The unit is four years old.

Our air conditioner sounded like it exploded the other night. You could hear it down the street! Then, the rattling started, very loud. No cool air coming out. Same air conditioner mentioned here and approx the same age. Any suggestions? No steps have been taken other than to take it out of the window and consider taking it to the curb as we were told its too expensive to fix a window unit. Is it? Thanks!

The outer fan of my A/C started rubbing inside the condenser housing because 1 of the 2 screws that hold the condenser to the frame came loose causing it to move. 2 tie wraps later the A/C is much quieter.

One of the 2 screws that hold condenser to the frame in my a/c came loose, causing the condenser to shift. It caused the outer fan rubbing against the housing. 2 tie wraps later the condition is much quieter and I can actually feel the difference at higher fan speeds.

I had a similar problem. It sounded like the fan was rubbing against something. After awhile the fan would just stop. I discovered it wasn't the fan but the motor. I ordered the motor from Sears for about $75 including shipping. It was a PITA to replace but now it works fine.

It could be the blower fan is loose and needs to be tightened. If so, and you're handy, shouldn't be too difficult. Depends on the specific design.

Hello, most likely the fan blade is either loose or cracked at the hub causing the blade to hit the fan shroud. You will either have tighten the fan blade or have to get a replacement.

verify that the fan is free to spin and not binded, window units are bad for this due to close tolerances in the small cases

Loud rattleing sound

If this AC is a thru walled, since it is new it is better to inquire to the people where you buy this unit, for this type of problem. They must have some authorized repair man/shop or, use its product warranty.

The problem could be also uneven placement of its base. This could maybe hitting the fan guard, some loose connection or some foreign object left that's hitting something inside.

My central aid conditioner makes constant loud noise when I turn it on.

Is it like a rattling sound. Here's a good, diagnositc handy article on A/C's making noises, which will help identify the probable cause:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Home_Improvement_Zone_Cooling_Ventilation_Systems_Central_Air_Conditioning_Making_Rattling_Sound.htm

If you still cannot find the problem, given that the noise is usually an indication of a serious and dangerous problem, you should seek the advice or even service a licensed technician. Incidentally, I found that the same site offers a link to a contractor directory that offers up to four (4) free estimates from local A/C technicians; it's the text link towards the middle of the same web page linked above.
