When I try to power up the TV, the power and opc lights flash once together and then the power light flashes twice on its own. From other posts it sounds like it's something in the power system trying to boot up the screen but can anybody confirm? It started a few days ago and it persists most mornings but it seems like if I can get the unit to boot up once properly in the morning then it will turn on at other times throughout the day without difficulty. Very strange.

In all the time that you have had the tv have you applied 2 firmware updates that some of the tv's need to avoid other known issues with the lcd in the future. These firmware updates are for the main cpu PH1UU112 and the monitor MD1UA104. I don't know if this is the case for you but it worked for me. Call Sharp at 1-800-237-4277.

Fault protection mode.... More than likely you have blown Uf Caps on the PSB-Power supply board. Recap with new Uf caps. A few bucks, solder and a soldering iron.

That means you may ahve problem in the power supply or the backlight inverter board. You can disconnect the cable to the inverter to see if the 24vdc comes back on, then you need to load it with 24vdc load that can draw 3~4amp to see if the power supply can handle it OK and maintain 24vdc output. Then you need to check the inverter board for shorts ot burnt out parts.

Sounds like your screen is broken or has been impacted. Force the television on by doing this: Unplug it and on the side of the television where the panel buttons are hold down the ch- and vol+ buttons. Then plug in the television while still holding them down. The television should come on and you see the cracks. Unfortunately it can't be repaired.
If it isn't ch- and vol + then try ch + and vol -.
