Question about Samsung SMH7174BC Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave problem Samsung over range microwave SMH7198STD: When I start it, there is a distinct buzz just behind the touchpad and the over cooktop light comes and wavers in brightness for different lengths of time then after usually 10-15 seconds the buzz quits and the light goes out and everything works normally. Once I used the beverage button and the same thing happened except it shut down and gave E4 message. I left unplugged for an hour once and for four hours once but problem persists. Any ideas?

Is it possible that grease or moisture got into the controls? This can happen when cleaners are sprayed directly on the keypad; when boiling is done on the stovetop without the hood vent fan being on; when the hood vent filter is clogged; or due to restricted airflow in exhaust. The best way to check the airflow is to turn the hood vent fan on and use your hand to feel at the exhaust outlet outside the home. Moisture can cause the keypad or control board to short to some degreee, and produce odd results. It may clear up, but sometimes it requires that the keypad be replaced or that the board be professionaly cleaned. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk We also repair microwave control boards for customers nationwide for $39.95. Feel free to contact me there directly if you have further questions.

GE over the range microwave buzzing then blowing fuse

If the buzzing is like the sound of someone using an arc welding then the is a possible loose connection on the high voltage side- from the HV transformer to the magnetron.

Be very careful. The HV capacitor can give you an electric shock even when power is OFF.

F5 code on Kenmore Elite Microwave 721.86013010 is it the same as the Samsung SE codes?

It may be a humidity sensor code or a touchpad code. There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components. If you have other questions, please feel free to contact me directly (see below).

The problem is that when I press the 'Start' button, nothing happens. The clock is working, the fan is working, but I cannot cook anything even after I have entered the time and the power level

If when you press the start button the turntable starts but no heat then magnetron is faulty otherwise if nothing happens then the touchpad itself is faulty.

Tappan microwave vent motor and cooktop lights not working

see this test . God bless youThis microwave oven repair is only for over the range(OTR) models. First, with microwave still installed, gain access to the control board and check for voltage from the fan relay. If you are not getting voltage from the fan relay on the control board, and your display says fan is on, then you need a new control board.
Again, this microwave oven repair is for OTR models. If you know your light bulbs are good and your display is telling you that they should be on, check the light relay on your control board. If no voltage is found at that relay, then replace the control board. Otherwise your problem is in the light socket, wiring, or wire connectors. You can get to all of that by unscrewing 6-8 screws under the unit and taking the bottom panel off.If voltage is present and the wiring that you can see looks good, then you will have to take the unit down and test for voltage at the fan itself. If the voltage is present there, then test the motor itself and/or start capacitor for the motor. The fan motor assembly will slide out of the top of the unit after you take it down and unscrew 2 screws. Below, in the list of component testing, you will see how to test the motor and start capacitor. get the part from

Kenmore Over the Range Microwave making buzzing sound and not heating

This is a strong indicator the magnetron is fried, also! this is the most expensive part to replace in the microwave oven, and in most cases cheaper to replace the whole unit.
