The unit just says hello and when you press the power button to reset it it will display the time and then shut off and then you press any buttons it goes back the hello display
This problem is normally caused by a dvd player with a dirty lens that it cannot read or detect a dvd in the player. At the same time if this is a dvd/vcr combo a vcr that will not load or is stuck can cause the problem. These can be checked by taking the screws off the unit and taking a look at the position of the dvd laser lens or the vcr position to see if it is in the fully eject position. The part that holds the laser lens to read the dvds can be moved manually back and forth to dislodge it from a stuck position with the power off. Depending on how long it sat around it could just be stuck. You see when you first turn the power on to the unit initially or try to eject a dvd, it will cycle through and try to read a dvd even though there is not one there on power up. If that assembly that moves the lens to read the dvd cannot move, it will cycle off and turn itself off even though you try to reset it with the power button.
A transistor on the power supply can also cause this problem but without taking signal and voltage measurements it would be difficult to pinpoint the exact one. So try moving the laser lens assembly manually and then turn it back on. Let me know. Good luck.

um i really dont know i got it from a dead guy
there is two little thingys that my stepdad says are blown and they need to be replaced and he says that this is the cause of the problem thinks for your help
DRC8335 unit hangs up at the "hello" screen and will go no further. Have tried unplugging the unit, no luck. Have tried holding the power button for 10 seconds to reset the unit, no luck. My original unit has already been replaced under warranty, and now RCA says there is only a 90 day warranty on their replacements. They also say they cannot repair the unit and there is no replacement available at any cost. Very poor customer service. This is definitely the last thing I buy with RCA on it.
This is a common problem with dvd players. Have you had any recent eject problems, no disc problems or the dvd having trouble reading the disc and not displaying clear images before this happened.
