Printer totally locked up and not even connected to computer - have unplug printer from power with out any results.
For Jane106:
The ink-out and paper lights flashing alternately indicates the "service required" or basically ... "change my ruddy diaper, it's full of ink".
This is not as bad as it sounds and you have a few options:
1. Take it to a service center and have it serviced (ie: have the waste pads replaced)... It's expensive though so be warned.
2. Download the SSC utility (Google: SSC epson reset) and use this to reset the protection counter in the printer memory.
Note: READ the manual, it's not overly intuitive.
If you've gone with 2. you'll still need to do something about your waste ink and the simplest is really to modify your printer to redirect waste ink from the cleaning pump to an external tank.
Again Google is your friend so keywords like "Epson waste ink R2400" will find what you need. Some kits are better than others but then I'm biased :)
Hope that helps.

My Epson R2400 was just refurbished by Epson in July 2008. Today I turned it on, the green light flashed briefly, the print heat twitched and made just one noise, and then the red ink out and paper out lights started flashing alternately. The print head never unlocked and cannot be moved. I unplugged the cable to the printer, I turned it on holding all 3 other buttons, I unplugged the power as I turned it on -- none of these have helped. The last time I used the printer I deleted a job while it was printing because the magenta was not printing well. I pulled out the half-printed page and then shut down because I had to go somewhere.
My Epson R2400 makes lots of noise...as if it wants to print..but nothing happens. I get the message that media is improperly looaded.
