I have the same problem. I just went and bought a new filter after some one told me if water doesn't come out then the filter is bad. New filter, still no water. I turned the freezer setting down one notch, hoping that it will thaw on its own without having to remove all contents in freezer! I have the same problem. Same thing here. We took a hair dryer to the back of the freezer door and it worked for one day. Then froze again. Don't have time to do it everyday. Same thing here. We took a hair dryer to the back of the freezer door and it worked for one day. Then froze again. Don't have time to do it everyday.
My water dispensor INSIDE the door froze up. I payed a repair guy $75 to use MY BLOWDRYER to "thaw" the frozen water line INSIDE the freezer door (below the water dispenser).
He said anytime the frozen food extends over the freezer shelf and touches the freezer door for a long enough period of time, the water line inside the door FREEZES!!
PREVENTION: "Keep some airspace between the door and frozen food."My water dispensor INSIDE the door froze up.

Your line is frozen. Frozen water dispenser line is a problem with this model. There are number of solutions.
1. Contact GE 800 386-1215, option 5 and ask for WR49X10173 heater kit. There is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdNX3LteJTw to help you install it. Try to get GE to send you the fix free. 2. Get a hair dryer and heat the dispensing box until the water dispenser works. This is not a permanent solution, though, and it takes 15 to 30 minutes. Hang a long beach towel or blanket over the open freezer to save the cold air. 3. Place a long, clean fishing line or weed wacker line up the water dispenser line. When it freezes, pull carefully to dislodge the frozen water. 4. Buy another brand of refrigerator and let GE know they make inferior products.
check the gaskets on the doors to see if they r sealin proplerly if they r than that means that it is low on freon and it is cheaper to buy another refridgerator.
GE refridgerators have what they call a main dome control board. This is located on the back of the machine, usually closer to one side or the other and about halfway up the machine. This board really controls everything, even as far as the dispenser in the door. I personally think this is a poor design, even though they look awesome cosmetically. Locate your model number, usually in the refridgerator side somewhere, and go to www.repairclinic.com to order the part. This is becuase they have a return policy that no one can beat. If you install the part and it doesn't work they will take it back and refund you, where as any other part distributor have a no return policy on electronic parts. Good Luck, but you won't need it. This is an easy repair.
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
g.e. has had problems with the freezer door.when the foam is blown into the door if the water line doesn't get covered the line freezes.you can call them and tell them your problme,i've seen them send out a new door for free.also g.e. has a heater kit made for this problem part number WR49X10173 and it's around 30 dollars
If this freezer is like most, the water going to the dispenser is looped around many times in the refrigerator section near the back. Make sure that this is still true. It must have a lot of water cable in the refrigerator section so that the water has time to cool down before it goes out the dispensor. If for some reason the water tube is touching either the compressor motor or another hot part of the external refrigerator it could cause it to be to hot to cool down in time during its travel through the refrigerator as well as it will start to warm up the refrigerator section as well.
Also, I am sure you have tested, but make sure that you are plugged into the cold water supply and not the hot water supply. Check the water at the connector and see what the temp is at that point before it enters the refrigerator.
My guess is that the coil of water tubing that is usually in the back of the refrigerator section has been either lessend in length or the water entering the refrigerator is too hot to be cooled down in time before it reaches the dispenser.
When the compressor is running, both the fan inside the freezer and the fan down by the compressor should be running. If OK, look for frost on the back wall of the freezer, indicating a probable defrost heater failure. If yes, remove back metal cover in freezer, defrost with hair blower, replace defrost heater (the thing at the bottom of the freezer coils with two wires going to it)
If no to these, send me an "ask me" follow up question.
I have a gsl25jfpe bs ge regrigerator and the baffle motor that controls air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator is out. This had been causing everthing in the fridge to freeze and cause the water to stop working due to water freezing in the storage tank. The baffle is in the back top of the fridge covered with a plastic cover. Remove plastic cover to check baffle function.
