My C86 is not printing well. About every seventh line does not fully print - it is just barely visable. I have gone through software troubleshooting guides and have not been able to fix the problem. It seems like a technical problem with the printer. It started after we changed the ink cartridge. The new cartridges were super cheap. Is this just because of cheap cartridges or is there some other problem. Is there something I can do? Thanks for your help. -Jess

Re: Epson Stylus C86 printing problem
There can be problems with cheap cartridges.
Try another brand just to be sure.
But if the printer is faulting- I don't think it is - it will have to be replace, there not a repair option.
It it is fairly new - try the Epson web site - a low cost swap out replacement may be on offer,

It sounds like the print head nozzles are clogged. Check your online user's manual (if it is not on the install disk that came with your printer) for the cleaning procedures. Here's a link if you can't find it: http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/xp400_/xp400_qr.pdf
go to the section, "Checking the print head nozzles"
Ensure the proper procedures for installing an ink cartridge was done.
Next, perform at least two cleaning cycles (hold down the ALT and the
Pause button on the printer panel to initiate a cleaning cycle). Print
out the demonstration page (press the ALT button while applying Power).
If the problem persists and there is no improvement, take the printer to
an Epson Authorized Service Center.
You probably have a slowly worsening clog building up in the Magenta nozzles. It's also possible that your ink is reaching its end of life which, given the age of the C86 is entirely possible, especially if you are refilling or using a CIS sytem with your printer.
If it's a clog issue you can try soaking the parking pad with a mildly ammoniated cleaning solution (original Ammonia windex is good for this) or even distilled water. Leaving this with the printhead parked above it allows the solution to wick up into the nozzles and break down any clogs in the printhead.
If the problem is ink age though you will probably want to carry out the solution above AND replace your ink with a fresh solution. A CIS will need a thorough flush to remove any algae and cloggation residues before you use it again or you will just reintroduce the problem.
I hate Epson. Had problems with Stylus C82 and now my replacement Stylus C86 has given me nothing but trouble.
I've just replaced all four ink cartridges and now when I print I'm only getting blank pages. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and nothing is working. I even called Epson, twice, only to be routed to the Phillipines where neither person was very helpful, in fact, had a hard time understanding their English. So this is what I;m going to do. I'm taking this bloody Stylus C86 outside and smash it with a hammer..then I'm going to buy a HR Printer...and if anybody from Epson reads this...good luck...your products SUCK!!
