sounds like he compressed his files , reformat drive , reinstall operating system, don't compress files, causes all kinds of problems, you can use a product called disk doctor and reset the hard drive, if format doesn't work

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.

It would appear the the shock not only damaged the USB connector but also the drive. You could try Hirens.BootCD and carry out a RAW recovery and you may be lucky and recover some of your lost data. If not then it will be gone forever as you have damaged the plates inside the hard drive itself

If you dropped the drive, you can send it to http://techrxgb.com and they can try to "un stick" the damage on the drive. It certainly will cost you a few dollars, but it's possible your data is okay.
