My friend you mention that your dvd is only 6 months old i am sure that from where ever you bought that set it has warranty if i was you i would take it back if the set is under warranty.by meddling with the dvd will void its warranty.the dvd has a bad lens problem causing it not to recognize the disc.good luck my friend.

Samsung dvd players are known for bad spin motors. You may try to clean the laser and see if that changes the disposition of the problem. If there is no change and with the top of the unit off,if you see the pin point of laser on top of the disc, and the disc moves or shivers, the chances are it is a bad spin motor. In most cases, it is not cost effective to replace the motor. If an auxillary line in jackis available , buy a $30 dvd to replace it rather than taking it to a service facility that will charge you the same amount to evaluate it. Scrivitron
