I have the console plugged in and the a/v cords connected, I flip the power switch in the back of the console and nothing comes on....no red light...and no power???????
That's a good first guess in the troubleshooting process, but I've got a 60gig PS3 that I bought on ebay "As Is" I found that the problem is somewhere in the power supply. When the unit is plugged in and switched on, there isn't even a red light on the front.
I opened the PS3 and found a fuse blown in the power supply, I replaced the fuse, but it blew again after powering on. I could only really troubleshoot up to the bridge rectifier, which is working fine, but after that things get a bit too complex for me. Anyone with more experience gotten any further than this?

Oh, and I mean not only near the socket, but the end nearest the PS3 as well.Oh, and I mean not only near the socket, but the end nearest the PS3 as well.

1. First shut down the system by flipping the power switch in the back off.
2. Hold down the eject disc button.
3. While still holding down the eject button, flip the power switch to turn back on your PS3.
4. When the green light comes on, wait a few seconds then tap the eject button a couple times. The fan will run on full power and the disc will eject.
Hey DJ Jeff, How are you? To fix this, you must follow these simple steps: Boot the PS3Turn off the PS3 to stand-by (push once on power button)Flip off the back switch I/ORemove the power cord from your ps3 Then shut off your modem/router for about 5 minutesTurn the modem back up first and give it time to sync again (1 minute)Then, turn the router back on (if you're using one) and let it sync too (30 seconds)Reconnect your ps3 power cable and flip the back switch up again. Then make a new network connection in the ps3 settings. Try a system update now (second icon on the menu, then go up to system update) Let me know!
Hard boot the PS3, turn off the PS3 to stand-by, flip off the back
switch and remove the power cord. Then shut off your modem/router, for
about 5 minutes, then turn the modem back up first and let it sync, then
turn the router back on(if using one) and let it sync. Reconnect your
power cable and flip the back switch up again. Then make a new network
connection.

It could be that the console is not correctly syncing up to the network properly. This can happen in a number of ways, such as electric power issues that caused the console to turn off-and-on suddenly.
To solve it, you might have to do a hard reboot of the console. This is what to do:
turn off your PS3 by using the power toggle switch at the back of the console and then unplugging the power cord.
Once you do that, power off your modem (also the router if you have one as well) by unplugging the power supply.
What about a minute or so then plug back your modem. Wait for it to sync for internet access.
If you have a router, plug that in next and wait for it to sync as well. Otherwise skip to the next step.
Once your modem and router devices are back on and you have Internet, go ahead and plug your PS3 back and turn it on.
Access the Network Settings menu and see if you can create a new connection.
Just unplug the power cord from your modem for 30 seconds then plug it back in. It should reset everything. You may need to configure your router, click on the link below to learn how to do this
is it the power cord i assume ? make sure the little flip power switch above the power cord is in on position. and u should have steady red light on front of ps3 when unit has power on. using a different power cord should not affect it but its not recommended . most ps3 uses a standard power cable.
if you are trying ti use the standard PS3 cable going to the videoinputs on a tv the PS3 needs to be reset turn off the playstation by the switch hold the power button and turn the switch back on hold the button until it beeps this puts it back in standard mode, when the PS3 uses the hd cable it automaticallly sets to HD mode but fogets how to get back to standard mode
First, Turn your T.V. on and go to the input mode on the t.v.
Second, there should be two cords in the back of your playstation3.
The power cord and the input cord. These are the two basic cords to turn your playstation on.
Once you have them plugged in, on the back of your playstation 3 there should be a power switch right above the power cord. Click it on so that the I is down and the O is up. In the front of your Playstation, a red light will appear indicating that the Playstation is ready to be turned on. Tap the red light until it turns green ( this should only be tapped once) When it is green the system will go to the start-up menu and enjoy your Playstation 3
Try unplugging all the cords from the wii unit, wait about a minute or so, then reconnect the cords and power up. This should "reset" the system. A similar situation occurred with our system, and this was the solution we were told to try, and it worked. Good luck! :)
