Most of the Dyson have a filter inside the canister where the dirt goes or under it---it is critical for safe operation--if it gets really blocked the motor will overheat and the thermal cutoff will kill all power to the unit.

It is a white foam type and instructions for washing are right on the ring it inserts into. Wash with water and mild soap (I use dish soap).

I suggest doing in the sink and expect the water to run black for a while----it must be allowed to dry completely and do not use a air compressor to do this.

The foam type filters are washable, I am not aware of another filter in this unit but check the owner manual anyway.

The filter will not "look" real dirty but when you run water thru it you will now know.

Can the filter be cleaned or does it have to be replaced. If it can be cleaned; how do I clean it?

Foam or cloth filters can be washed. I wash by hand with hot water and dish washing liquid, rinse with clean water, thoroughly dry and refit. Has always worked for me. The paper filters obviously can't be washed, but if you have access to a compressor you can blow them cleaner. Be careful as they do rip easily and this method only partially unclogs them. Replacement is the best way.

How many filters in the DC25 dyson vacuum cleaner

Hi Cheryl, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25 has two filters, engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. One is housed within the cyclone pack, and one within the ball shell. We recommend washing these at least once every 3 months, using cold water without detergent. Allow both filters to dry completely before replacing them - this may take at least 24 hours.

Our video guide below will show you where both filters are located, and how to wash them correctly:

If you're concerned your DC25 isn't picking up as well as it should be, washing both of the filters as shown should definitely help. However if you're still concerned after washing and replacing the filters there may be a blockage somewhere. Our online Support pages should help you locate and remove any obstructions: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc25/dc25-multi-floor/diagnosis-root-menu/dc25filterwashvid/dc25filterwashvid/performance-flo-dc24-suction-check

Why won't my hoover u6434 900 turn on?

Hello! The vacuum has a thermal protector sensor that will automatically shut off the vacuum when it is overheated. The vacuum should turn back on once it has cooled down. This can take up to an hour. Overheating is usually caused by a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Below are steps you may follow to check your vacuum for blockages.

1. Locate the primary filter behind the side grille. Wash the filter, squeeze it out and allow 24 hours to air dry outside of the vacuum. It should be washed about every other month.

2. Locate the secondary filter located in the vacuum base under the paper bag. The secondary filter can be washed in the same manner as the primary filter.

3. Replace the bag if it is full.
4. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
5. Remove the bottom plate and brush-roll. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose.

Hope this helps!

My Hoover Tempo has almost no suction

Most vacuum cleaners have more than one filter (even bag-less vacuums sometimes). I have found that after being used a while the motor filter blocks up. I just remove it and use another vacuum to clean it out. Depending on the material you may be able to wash it in warm water or if you can get your hands on a new one just replace it. I found a link on youtube that may help you to locate and replace the filters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGsuVK8KTT0

How do I remove the filter to wash it?

Hi There,

Here's a step by step guide on how to clean the filter on your Dyson DC07.

Turn power off and unplug the machine.
unplug_us.gif Step 1
  • Press the release button and remove the filter housing from the machine.*
remove_filter_house.gif *The post-motor filter located under the clear bin should last the lifetime of the machine and does not need to be washed.

Step 2
  • Remove the filter from the housing. (Only the blue foam, yellow cage and white cloth should be washed.)
dc07_std_125_ai.gif
Step 3
  • Wash in cold water only. Please do not use detergent on the filter, or wash the filter in a dishwasher or in a washing machine.
  • Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear.
wash_filter.gif The filter should be washed at least once every 6 months.

  • Leave to dry in a warm place for 12 hours. DO NOT dry the filter inside a clothing dryer, hair dryer, microwave the filter, place the filter in an oven, or near a naked flame .
  • Ensure the filter is completely dry before replacing in the machine.

It is VERY important to make sure your filter is 100% completely dry before reinstalling it into the vacuum cleaner. Running the machine with a damp filter can cause permanent damage to your motor, or cyclone assembly.

What some people do is purchase an extra washable filter, this way they can easily swap filters when they need to be washed, preventing any wait time while the filter drys. Also after a few washing you'll notice the filter starting to deteriorate, sooner or later you'll want to replace the filter. Here's a link to the filter on our site if you'd like to get an extra one.

Cleaning the filters

Hello,

There are 3 different filters on this particular model. Two of them are foam, and as washable, the 3rd is a HEPA filter that's located on the back and is not washable, but needs to be replaced once a year.

The most important filter, and the one that most people are not even aware of, is located directly underneath of the dirt cup. Directly under the dirt cup you'll see a black tray that says "pull". Pull this tray out, and you'll find a square shaped washable filter. Simply remove this filter and rinse it under water until it's clean. Make sure to let the filter completely air dry before reinstalling it in the vacuum and using the vacuum again.

The second foam filter is located directly above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup, and in the clear plastic housing that's directly above the dirt cup you'll find a circular colored plastic piece. Reach your hand up there, and unscrew this plastic part while pulling downward. You'll find a circular shaped filter that wraps around this plastic piece. This filter may also be washed the same way as the square shaped one, again just make sure that the filter is completely dry before using the vacuum again.

The HEPA filter is actually on the back of the vacuum in a grate that pull down to open it and remove it. This filter needs to be replaced only, and can not get wet.

The foam filters can be washed several times, but will sooner or later need to be replaced, as they will start to deteriorate after a few washings.

If you need to purchase these filters, here are direct links to all of the filters on your vacuum cleaner.

I have a dyson alergy machine, I have emptied it, but I would like to clean the filter. I can't locate where the filter is or how to get to it to clean it. The manuel for this is not with the machine. ...

Greetings Irlawren3,

It all depends on the model you currently have. The filters on some are above the motor and some are on the side housing. Its pretty clear looking at the unit where the filters are located. I would suggest investigating your unit and looking for the filter.

When you do locate the filter, it is to be washed with plain water and allowed to dry for at least 12 hours before being put back into the unit.

One thing that helps determine the model is the color also. What color is it?

Thanks!
