Re:
Make sure the cover that holds the ink cartridge in place is completely closed down on the cartridge. Also make sure there is not a pencil or something under the cover where the ink is , obstructing the print head

Look for the gray-colored carriage on the right side of the printer.
Find
the horizontal (bottom) edge of the carriage and follow it towards the
back (or in) until it makes a 90-degree turn. Follow it down to the ¼
inch-high, black-colored capping station.
Using a screwdriver or similar tool, push the capping station toward the back of the printer.
NOTE:
Do not pull on the ribbon cable when moving the carriage.
Making
sure to not push up on the carriage, move the carriage to the middle of
the printer. If the carriage is still locked in place, push the capping
station farther into the printer and try moving the carriage again.
After
the carriage is pulled out from the right-hand side of the printer,
remove both print cartridges and store them according to specifications.
Unplug the Power Supply from the Printer.......
Remove both the Catridges from the Printer.........
Just Move the Catridge Carrier which Holds the Catridge Back and Forth for about 20 Times.........
Insert the Catridges back to the Printer.........
Turn the Printer On...........
"The print cartridge cradle cannot move."
I fixed this problem by disconnecting the power cord from the power-strip and connecting it directly into the wall. My printer was not getting enough voltage from the power-strip. I hope this helps.
I think I may have solved this problem. What I did was take out the #56 cartridge and hit the print button. It started to calibrate and then said it was printing on reserve or something? Yup, it printed with only one (#57 cartridge). After that, I stuck in a new #56 cartridge and so far so good for it only happened yesterday.
I hope this solves your cartridge #57 failed problem. Let me know if it does.
Hi KHphoto, you can see this steps to fix your printer jam,
Disconnect the USB cable.
Press the printer power button to turn off the printer.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
Open the top cover of the printer.
Remove the print cartridges from the printer.
Slide the cradle to the right side of the printer.
Locate the clutch on the left side of the printer.
NOTE:
The
clutch is a flat, white, plastic component that rests just above the
white roller gear wheel. In the HP Photosmart P1000 and P1100 printers,
the clutch is black metal.

Remove the rear access door from the back of the printer.
Press the clutch firmly towards the back of the printer, while rolling
the wheels in the back of the printer upward two full rotations.
Release the clutch and roll the wheels up two more rotations.
Reinstall the rear access door.
Reinstall the print cartridges and secure the latches in place.
Close the top cover and reconnect the power cord.
Turn on the printer.
Print a test page.

I have had this problem with my 7550 for a while now and I finally found this on the HP website and it seems to have fixed my problem, I also replaced all of the cartridges:
Issue
While printing from an HP Photosmart printer, the printer screen displays
Print cartridge cradle is stuck / clear jam and then press OK
.
The printer may also make grinding sounds. This can occur after a paper jam when another printer part blocks the cradle.
Solution
Follow these instructions to adjust the clutch on the printer.
