If you want to get 100% reliable voip, just get an online provider account. I would advice you popfax.com - send & receive faxes, get many additional features and so on.

SOURCE: CANT SEND FAX THRU VOIP LINE

Make sure baud rate is set to 9600 and error correction mode (ECM) is off. If this does not correct your issue then you may have to contact your provider to adjust your sample rate (packetization). This adjusts the size of the packets and is often a common fix. You may want to run a ping/tracert from command prompt to check for latency and/or packet loss with your ISP. I'm a voip tech and these are the primary fixes for fax issues.

Cannon mx 330 printer/fax. I plugged into the comcast modem for Tel 1 line then to the back of the cannon fax L. that didn't work so I connected it to the telephone line on the back of the fax..Help

The Pixma MX330 Line port needs to be connected to a POTS (plain old telephone service) line jack with an RJ-11 cable. A standard corded telephone or the base of a cordless system gets connected to the Tel port on the MX330. The Comcast modem connects devices to the internet. You might be able to use a VOIP (voice over internet protocol) service between the MX330 and the modem. You will need the appropriate hardware (MagicJack, Ooma) in between the modem and the Pixma and get an assigned telephone phone number.

Generally, you will need a compatible router to share the cable modem's internet service between any computers and a stand-alone VOIP system like the Ooma.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with more about your Comcast hardware for additional information. I know my home's fiber-optic modem service does support POTS, in addition to the internet and TV service. Each service has their own wiring/jacks that go back to the modem.

Canon mx 410 fax answers voice calls

I have an MX870 with the same problem - fax picks up during a voice call and I can no longer hear the caller. As with everyone else, the problem is intermittent and not replicable.
I have tried tel priority mode and fax priority mode (from the phone/paper submenu under physical Fax button) and all the various RX receive setting under Fax Settings submenu of the physical Settings button.
But I have a new possible solution. I only use the fax for outgoing -- for some time now I have been using K7.net for incoming faxes which delivers faxes to my email. That way I have a dedicated fax number, never miss an incoming fax while on the phone, and I have all faxes in electronic form as well.
So, my new idea was to set the MX870 to DRPD (distinctive ring pattern) receive mode (from the phone/paper submenu under physical Fax button). Since my phone service through Xfinity/Comcast does not offer DRPD, I am hoping that the MX870 will NEVER pick up a fax.
I will keep you posted as to whether this works.

Fax machine does not receive FAX

The problem is that the codecs used by VoIP IADs are designed to compress voice, not the analog signals sent and received by modems.
In a VoIP Internet world, voice is first converted into packets and then they are sent over the connections that make up our our vast Internet. They may take slightly different times to arrive at their destination. In doing so some packets may be discarded, but the end result is that the receiving VoIP device has enough packets to make a clear and understandable conversation.
We suggest these settings on a fax machine for faxing over VoIP; slowing the transmission rate down and allowing the machine to continue receiving the transmission even though a few bits of data were lost, then faxing over VoIP can become more consistent. Our suggestions in many cases can resolve issues that prevent faxing over a VoIP connection, but not in all cases. If after trying and making all the VoIP fax changes we suggest you still cannot fax over your connection then try a Internet Fax service.

Can dial out and receive incoming calls but will

Are you connected to a VOIP line for your fax?
A VOIP line can come from a company like Vonage or your local cable co.

If so:

Unfortunatly, faxing over VOIP (Internet) is not always successful. You might want to talk to your VOIP provider if they have a solution.

If not:

Are you trying with the same fax to send and recieve? Some traditional fax machines have probles connecting to fax modems, which is what you have in an Office Jet.
Try having someone else send you a fax and try sending to another number. Otherwise, you might have a defective fax modem.
