It faxes out fine. It won't receive faxes. It rings twice, then quits. Turned it off, unplugged it for a few minutes, tried resetting rings to four, made sure it was set to fax only (nothing else is on the line - dedicated to fax), bought a new Brother fax, had same issue. Put a Canon fax/printer/copier on the same line and it works fine.
Called the Brother fax with a regular phone and it answered. Tried calling it from two different fax machines, doesn't work. Called from regular phone and had someone answer using the handset, no apparent line noise.
I had this happen before at another location, but installing a new Brother fax machine resolved the problem.
Could the new fax be defective as well? Has anyone else had this problem with these faxes?

Just unplug the power cord for a few seconds, then plug in again. this will erase all fax memory except speed dial and phone book numbers,or you have here manual to download ( look at the end of the user manual, option how to retrieve a fax. there you have listed how to delete faxes in memory).
Cleaning the Scanner Before cleaning, unplug the power cord for safety. Clean the white roller and the glass strip under the roller with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth. You'll need to lift the two release levers to release the white roller; be sure to lock them in place when you're through. During cleaning, I recommend you unplug the power cord for safety.
