When I turn on my camera and attempt to take pictures all I get is a black screen. When I hit the button to take a -picture it clicks like it is taking the picture but only a black screen shows up.
But have you actually taken picture? Take a bunch and upload them to computer to see whats is there. The black screen . Can you see a shadow image on the screen if you look along it instead of at it. If you can then this would indicate the backlight has failed. If nothing is to be seen then it is more serious. In case it may be a simple connector coming loose try gently squeezing the casing in the region of the base of the screen. Do get onto the Canon technical help team on the website. if it is a youngish camera, there may be a replacement offer. But repair I do not think is an option.

Since posting this problem, I contacted customer support at 800-828-4040 who have determined that it is my Image Sensor. They also indicated that there was a consumer products notice at www.usa.canon.com. I have been informed that if this is the problem, it will be repaired free of charge, as this is apparently a defect in the product. I was assigned a case number and will print out a UPS label and will send it in for repair.
