Childblock I have the Sony RDR-GX315 DVD Recorder and every few weeks, it puts itself on childblock. When it is on childblock, there is no button that I can press to make it work. I have even unplugged it and plugged it right back in. What can I do to get it off childblock?

First, turn off the recorder, but don't unplug it. Hold the Power button for about 5 seconds, and the childblock should turn off. If not, the problem is probably unconventional and you would need to take it in to a shop.

Which blank media do you have? Check out CDFREAKS.com forum Does your burner prefer + or- disks? Try a slower burn speed Try a different blank media. Don't buy the cheapest disks
I have good results with Verbatum, Taiyo Yunden (Fuji)
There are no default password to unlock the parental lock. If you've forgotten the password, it is required to perform the Easy Setup to reset the settings on the DVD Recorder. Please refer to page # 83 of the Recorder's manual to reset the Settings.

sounds like your laser is getting weak. repair is usually not economical. laser is about 90% the cost of the unit. hope this helps if it still plays but not record. keep it as strictly playback unit.
Turn off recorder. Hold the on/off button on the dvd player for a few seconds. until "CHILD LOCK" disappears. The child lock is now disengaged...Check page 37 in the manual (I found it online -- same thing happened to my player -- I just freed it) www.manualshark.org/manualshark/files/4/pdf_6908.pdf
Here's the link to the manual;

check page 67 - it sounds like your discs need to be finalised before you can read them elsewhere
Hope this helps, if you dont find what you need please ask again :)
