Question about Dell UltraSharp 1703FP Flat panel TFT 17" Monitor

1 Answer

Blank after 2 seconds

I have a Dell 1703FPs TFT which has worked OK for a couple of years. When I switch on now the picture comes on for 2 seconds and then the screen goes blank. If I switch off and back on the same happens. I have checked the computer with another monitor and it works fine. Anyone got any ideas. Andy

This is most probably cause by one or more Faulty Electrolytic Capacitors, I find these are the MOST commonest form of "Fault" in these LCD's TFT's units. I ususally simply replace "On Spec" all High Value Electros, in fact ALL Electro's are suspect and often I just "Shotgun" and replace 'em all. Usually fixes all problems. Always use High Temperature Caps.

I've upgraded operating system to Vista and can't find drivers for Dell 1703FPs

Have you tried to download from Dell support site. Support.dell.com
Eventhough it doesn't list Vista as an option it should work. XP 1703FPs
driver should work on Vista.

Black Screen

No, this is typical problem for defective inverter. Mostly screen appears for some seconds and then turn to black. If you are technician, you can use this link :-).
