1. Plug the stereo audio cable into the headphone jack of your audio source (e.g., stereo, TV, CD player, DVD, etc.). If your audio source has two RCA output jacks instead of a headphone jack, use the supplied Y cable to connect your headphones to the two (red and white) RCA jacks. 2. Connect the other end of the stereo audio cable to the AUDIO IN socket at the back of the recharging cradle/transmitter. 3. Connect the AC/DC main power adapter to the DC IN power supply socket at the back of the recharging cradle/transmitter. Then, connect the adapter to an electrical outlet. Important: This power unit is intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position.
The AR AW721 headphones require 3 AAA NiMH batteries, not Ni-Cad. The original batteries are 1.2 volt, 550 mAh. I replaced mine with Energizer 850 mAh AAA batteries, which work well and actually last longer per charge than the originals.
After connecting all cables.... try channel 1 at the receiver... then move tuner up and down until the green light on the left headphone lights up and you can hear whatever you are listening to. If channel 1 doesnt work, try 2 and 3...... mine is set on CH3.
I purchased an AW 771 set in "as is" condition which on arrival produced output only from one side. Repair was effected by removing 8 phillips screws, 4 from each side, concealed under the ear-surrounding doughtnut-shaped cushions. To expose those screws, the ear cushions must be pushed from their center toward the outside. Black screws in back holes surrounded by black acoustically-transparent cloth does not make them obvious.
I used a volt-ohm meter to find a discontinuity at a failed solder connection. Resoldered that connection, rechecked electrical continuity to be certain all connections were good. Tested with batteries installed using an audio input. Both sides produced sound. Replaced screws and they have performed very well since then.
I hope this Model AW771 experience is helpful in restoring your AW-721 to working order. John
