GE Sensor JES1855 is around 2 1/2 yrs. old. While boiling pre-packaged rice in water, got a little too steamy, went to check on it. Hole melted in plastic wrap, so recovered with new piece, left door ajar to air out. Restarted and a few seconds later...CLICK. No screen, dead as door nail. Checked plug, it's fine. Gave it time to cool down, unplugged and replugged still nothing. Called Sears where purchased, they send out for large amounts of $$. GE Auth. repair even more. More to repair than to replace, such a shame. What a disposable nation we are!! Anything I can do? No one lets you talk to a repairman for helpful hints, would order part through them, if they would sugest a fix!!
There shoudl be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) inside the oven. The most common reasons for this are the magnetron thermal cutout and the fuse. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
I forgot to mention that the mini-manual shows diagrams and troubleshooting info. Very handy.
To access the mini-manual, you will have to either remove the control panel frame or the outer wrapper / cover.
It should be located in an envelope either behind the control panel frame or near the back of the oven.
If you have to remove the cover, the oven would have to come out of the wall. Safety dictates that is a two-person job. If you happen to have the installation instructions, that will make it easier.
The parts I mentioned that I suspect are not expensive, depending on where you get them. Just a few dollars or so.

I guess by inside the micro. you mean with the outside shell off? The most important question is are these parts expensive. New one is $130, not that I would consider another GE. Had better luck with my 20 year old Kenmore, still worked when I gave it to Goodwill!!
Guess first one didn't post, so this maybe a carbon!

I haven't broken it down yet. My main question is, is it
very expensive for these two parts? A new one costs $130,
not that I'd buy another GE! My Kenmore lasted 20 years,
still worked when we gave it to Goodwill! These Sensors
seem to be an issue. I have a five year old oven that has
had to have the sensor replaced twice already and it's a
Tappan. I sure appreciate your comments.
Thank you!
Thank you for your help. It is a free standing model. We took off the housing and found the mini-manual, changed the fuse with a 20amp. auto fuse from ACE Hardware. It looks the same, but the one in the oven looks as if it has a ceramic coating over the glass. No reposne. I'm done with the thing no more GE for me. Went and bought another Kenmore!
Thank you for your time and energy.
