I have a Sony DCR-DVD201 camcorder,. I when I bought it I was told it would record on ANY mini dvd -R or -RW's. I bought a pkg of 5 Memorex Mini dvd-R. The first disk recorded beautifully, but I didn't finalize it. The second disk also seemed to be recording really good but when it got to the end of the disk it said ERROR and "Data Not Recoverable". I was angry, but ok, I tried a new disk, this time Maxell and it recored fine. I forgot I had a problem with the Memorex disk and the next time I used the camera I grabbed a new Memorex disk, inserted and recorded. All went well till the end and I got the ERROR message and Data Not Recoverable. I took the camera to the store and they sent it away for testing and said it was fine but the disks (Memorex) were faulty and I should only use Sony brand. I told them the Maxell had worked fine and then they said it was OK to use them too. I went home and made a Test disk with one More Memorex (I had 5 after all) and it worked beautifully. My question is, is there any way I can re-cover the data on the two Memorex disks that the camera no longer recognizes? They have stuff on them that was really special to me and I can't understand where the data went if the camera recorded it. Thanks for your help Jaminjan
I bought some Maxell CD-Rs and had the same problem. Save some grief and only go Sony brand discs. I know; I hate it, too, but better than losing my footage.

You will never be able to recover the information. Sony's system really will have problems with third party brands; there is particular engineering that makes this so. In my shop (Sony authorized), I have seen this problem many times. If you insist on using other brands, get used to problems. As your laser assembly wears it will become more problematic.
