Two days ago everything on the top shelf was frozen. I cleaned the coils and turned the temp all the way down. It didn't seem to help. I noticed that we didn't seem to be getting any new ice either, but the freezer temp seemed right. Today, the fridge had water every where. It seems to be leaking from the PureSource 2 water filter. I am thinking that there is a block somewhere in the ice maker and the water and ice backed up into the fridge. Is this possible? If so, how do I clear the line?
Thanks for any help!

Re: refrigerator side freezing
Kjn, I think what happened here is that the automatic damper assy. is stuck in the open position. This is why everything froze in the refer area. This includes the water filter and cartridge. I would unscrew the filter cover and see if it's frozen in there. If you find the filter frozen, take a hair dryer and go over it lightly until it will unscrew. After that you will have to check to see if the damper is stuck. You should be able to hear it open and close by turning the control on and off. Or get a mirror and hold it at an angle in back to see the gates. Part number for the damper motor is 240440701. Not that hard of a job...Catriver.

you have done a good job so far . so next ck the dampner at the top in the fresfood side . it may be stuck open causing the freezing . but the evap coil was frozen so you may have a heater out in the freezer so ck the defrost system heaters and defrost terminator . ..mm hope this helps feed back pls
I have this same refrigerator, also purchased in 2006. Same exact problem. Fridge freezes, starting actually in the water line, you will notice water on door does not work, then top two shelves start to freeze. Lasts for a few days, then prob does not happen again for 6 months almost to the day. I've had this problem for almost 3 years!!! My service tech said to buy another, glitch in this system he can't figure out. Replaced damper x2, control board, and thermostat x2. Not sure what else to do. I hate the thought of more food lost to spoilage!
I had the same problem with mine a few years ago. After two thermostat replacements and still having the problem, the third technician out explained that if you blocked the vent on the inside of the refrigerator, (the shelf below meat drawer, left side) it could cause freeze up. Sure enough, haven't had a problem since.
Your defrost system is probably out. It's probably frozen up. Check your heater first, then the t-stat and timer. You will want to let the unit thaw out completely for a full day before replacing these parts. We have parts that we can ship to you. Hope this helps! Ella :>)
you have a temp setting above those shelves left side has a porkshop and left side has a carrot i belive set to to the left side to vegies and see if it helps if still all freezes the you have a broken damper on top that letts air in when it does not needed
SORRY, YOU NEED A TECHI. THERE. EITHER YOUR TH/STAT IS STICKING OR THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH YOUR AUTO DEFROST UNIT. ALL THINGS TOLD CHECK THAT THE FREEZER OR EVAPORATOR FAN IS RUNNING. IF NOT IT COULD ALSO CAUSE PROBLEMS.
