Question about Acer TravelMate 508DX Notebook

Broken hinge The hinge broke and now it's very hard to open and close the lid, so I want to disassemble the case so I can try to fix it somehow. Even having the lid be a separate part that can be locked in two ways (closed or open) would be great. But I have removed all the screws I could find and it still won't come apart, I don't want to break the case if I can avoid it.

It is a snap together construction. a fine blade along the seam perhaps But if you have doubts about that I certainly would have- How about Gaffer tape? I have made many hinge type repairs [not a lappie admittedly] on stuff like the tool cover on a vacuum cleaner- it gets tacky after a while and will need replacing- but far better that trying to rip a clam shell apart.

Scanner lid hinge broken or missing

If you read through the posts, there are many ideas on what to do. The cheapest and easiest way I found to fix a broken hinge is to follow one the ideas in the posts. I wrote a detailed post step-by-step. In quick summary, I broke the other hinge and removed all the broken pieces to both, so the lid would lay flat again. Printer doesn't care if the hinges are not there. The manual is on line:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&document=&product=3635378 Hope It's resolve all Your Printer Problem,

Replacing laptop hinges

There are 2 set of cable that run from the display to the monitor, be very careful with it. In most cases, to remove these cables you need to disassemble the whole laptop. Now, since you are on Y changing the hinges, I think you can do it, just don't pull on the monitor too hard, and it needs to be place on a flat surface very close to the laptop. It's not that hard, you just need to be careful, that's all.

One side of the printer will not close

The hinge underneath could be broken the only way to fix this is to remove the plastic hinge.. You will need to unplug the printer and examine it, the broken hinge is likely to be impeding the lid from closing,

Macbook lid wouldnt close, now it closes but catches when it is opened it is not smooth open and close.

Either hinge inside the case is bent or the "lid" is bent. the only way to fix this is to replace either the "lid" or internal hinge.

Lid support broke

Not much info but if you mean the lid on your DS falls backward when opened then one of two things has happened either the small barrel lock in the hinge has broken, this is rare. Or you have broken the hinge allowing the barrel lock to rotate in the case.
The barrel is cheap and a very easy fix by opening the case removing the led lens holder then change the lock. If you have broken the hinge you will need to replace the case, tricky job requiring patience especially when transfering the top screen to the new case. Watch a few you tube instruction videos to get a better idea of whats involved.

Gateway left hinge broke

Definately an easy fix.

I suggest looking on eBay for a donor chassis.
Sometimes they can be had relatively cheap CLICK HERE (this one has both hinges broken however) - and sometimes just the parts you are looking for are available CLICK HERE (this is for the RHS one though).

An entire donor PC is adviseable, because usually the repair is not just the hinge that broke - as the rest of the lid is plastic!

Once the trim above the keyboard is pried off, you will see the monitor cable, and hinge screws.

The trim around the monitor must be dis-assembled and pried into 2 parts.
Then the hinge & Support are either screwed into the side of the screen, or the back of the lid.

Most look like this...

Replace reverse of removal.

HERE is a link that will describe it better and give you a visual reference.

Once the screen is free of the chassis - its time to remove the little rubber scerw covers in the lid, and disassemble.

Acer hinges hard to open google says known issues, will not fix says normal already cracked case above left cant figure how to open

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

To your concern; hinge repair is relatively easy, what is more challenging is opening the lid and figuring out how to improve the hinge action to reduce the stiffness of closing the lid. For a pictorial illustration on how to open the lid cover to expose the hinge, please reference this page. For a generic how-to on hinge repair, pls check this out.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
