GE French door fridge problem. When you close one door the other door pops open alittle most of the time. Is this normal on french door fridges?

Hello, In a word, Yes. It is totally normal, when you close a door it pushes air into the unit and depending on how it is closed the other door will "pop" open slightly from the "push" of air. Thanks for coming to fixya. macmarkus :)

When we close the refrigerator door (side-by-side unit) the freezer door pops open slightly. The unit is about 14 months old and the seals look fine.

There is something not fully in place holding the door from closing completely. It doesn't take much. You should be able to feel slight resistance when opening if it is seated properly. The cavities are connected so when you close the door fast the air pressure moves from one to the other and pops the door open.

GE profile freezer door pops open

If you close any refrig door " fast " , the other will pop open . These magnetic door gaskets , are designed for lighter holding power now , than they used to be , due to children getting caught inside . I would suggest lowering the front legs slightly , so that when you let go of the door , it will close slowly on its own .

GE Profile freezer door problem

I wil let you know of things you can do to solve this.
This happens because the refrigerators of today are air tight, the fresh food door pushes the air into the cabinet as it closes and the air has no place to go but up the air vent into the freezer and "pops" open the freezer door. First thing is make sure the freezer door is capable of closing properly and is not rubbing or catching anywhere. I sometimes add a washer or 2 to the center hinge under the freezer door so it doesn't rub anything. Put a little Vaseline ( or food grade silicone lubricant ) on the hinge side of the seal. I then raise the front of the refrigerator so that the front of the refrigerator is a little higher than the back of the refrigerator. Never level a fridge with a level. Once you have the door closing properly and front slightly higher than the back...let the fresh food door close from 90 degrees on it's own and the freezer door may "pop" open a little but will close again on it's own...and stay closed once all is set up properly. We see this more often now and have no trouble with the door staying open again after setting up the refrigerator properly.

Hope this helps, Thanks Sea Breeze

Top freezer door pops slightly open when frig door is closed

try to adjust hinges and check the door gaskets for pinching. Also I have seen that if the fridge is slightly pitched forward and not slightly towards the back gravity sometimes this causes the problem you describe.

Refrigerator door pops open, frigidaire top

The refrigerator needs to be perfectly leveled side to side dn should pitch back slightly. Also look at the plane of the doors, that is to say that they should be squared to the cabinet. If they are sagging, you may need to adjust the hinges.

Freezer door wont seal and stay closed

Your pushing air from the fridge part over to the freezer door when you clos it,the only thing i can suggest is make sure that the seal (which is magnetic) is clean and not falling apart, inspect it all around the door, and when closing the door i would close it gently.

Freezer door opens When you close refir. door

The freezer door is relatively light weight, and when the fresh foods door closes, the air has to go somewhere and the easiest escape route is to momentarily pop the freezer door open. The door should close again quickly. If is does not, make sure the freezer door liner is not touching the top or bottom, causing dragging resistance, and make sure that the front leveling legs are raised up so the door closes by it's self when released from a 45 degree opening. Sometimes the hinge side gasket rubs and holds things up also, especially if that area was cleaned. If that is the case, rub a film of wax on the hinge side gasket to lubricate it. Additional weight in the freezer door will also help.
