SOURCE: Nuvi 360 cannot acquire sattelite
There are a few things you can try to restore satellite reception.
1. place your finger over the lower left-hand corner of the screen and hold it there
while pressing the on/off power button. Keep holding your finger there and a window should pop up asking if you want to go into maintenance mode. Select yes. There is an option called "clear user data". Select that option. It will not erase your favorites. It will however, erase any corrupted satellite data and will default you back to some factory settings. This will clear some of the memory allowing your Nuvi to collect new satellite data. Your Nuvi should reboot and it will ask you a couple questions like, timezone, language. Please select the proper settings.
Make sure the antenna is up and that you are outside. On the main screen, you will see a satellite bar graph in the upper left-hand corner. Touch the bar graph and you should get a satellite map, showing the satellites. If your Nuvi's receiver is working ok, you should see horizontal hollow bar graphs appear on the right. Eventually they will turn solid blue. This indicates they have downloaded the proper data from the satellite. When you have (4) solid blue horizontal bars (4 satellites), you will see the top panel begin to show improved accuracy and your Nuvi will then work as it should. This entire process make take 30 minutes or less.
If you don't see any bar graphs, your Nuvi may ask you severl minutes later, if you are indoors. If your outside, select no. It will then ask you if you have moved 1000 miles since your last use. Select yes. This will cause your Nuvi to start looking for
satellites, trying to locate your new position.
Now, if you still don't see any bar graphs, then your antenna may have a problem. There is a known issue with the Nuvi antenna where a part has failed, causing the Nuvi to no longer use its internal antenna and it's now always looking for an antenna at the external antenna port (the gold connector on the side of the Nuvi antenna). If you have a piece of small wire, a couple feet long, you can insert that into the center lead of the external antenna jack. Most likely, you'll begin to see bar graphs after a few minutes and your Nuvi will lock.
I haven't been able to identify yet, which part has failed. I am working on that.
However, if the piece of wire works, you can always go on eBay or a retail store and
purchase an external antenna for your Nuvi. They are magnetic and can either stick to your roof or any metal surface within your vehicle.
Here's another way to determine if your antenna has failed and will have to be replaced:
At the main menu, pres on the "wrench" symbol. Then press the "gear" symbol and then press "about". There is a field marked "GPS S/W". There should be a number next to it. It may be "2.9" or "3.0". That is good. That tells you that the main board in the GPS is communcating with the antenna receiver. If you see "0.0" then your antenna is defective and there's no way to repair it other than replace it.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 360 - Acquiring Satellites
I had a problem with my Nuvi 360 that it couldn't find the satellites. I couldn't solve the problem with resets or updated software, but a new, external antenna that plugs into the side of the folding antenna seems to have solved the problem. Available from Wireless Finest through Amazon.com - like $11.50. Great solution - can't beat the price.

It is a good idea to perform a hard reset on your Garmin Nuvi after updating the software.
The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.
Perform the Hard Reset:
*Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

Most GPS problems - Hangs, frozen screens, problems
acquiring satellites, ETC, can be attributed to the device not having the latest
firmware installed.
This firmware enables it to communicate with the
satellites - but if they aren't speaking the same language they get confused
easily.
For Garmin GPS Automotive units, Garmin has you do
the following before sending it in for repairs:
1 - SOFT RESET
2 - HARD
RESET (CLICK
HERE to see instructions for either reset)
3 - UPDATE the device using
their WebUpdater software (CLICK HERE for
that)
Garmin is the only company that offers repairs
AFTER the warranty has expired. They offer a FLAT RATE REPAIR
service for units no longer in warranty.
For Other GPS units please consult your owner's
manual or their support site - as each model - and even manufacture dates - can
lead to different reset procedures.
TomTom
NAVIGON
MAGELLAN
NEXTAR does NOT offer any types of Firmware or map
upgrades or repair services. Instead - they have an exchange program to update
to a new UNIT for around the same price as a repair would be. CLICK HERE for
more on that.
WARRANTY on most GPS devices is 1 year from the
date of purchase.
Broken screens are considered ABUSE - and not
covered under warranty.
Finally - If your unit is on the charger for HOURS,
You've tried both the car AND USB type charger, and you turn it on... it stays
on for a minute (or so) then powers down or never comes on at all - the battery
has lost it's ability to hold a charge and must be replaced.
Looking around YouTube - you can get a tutorial on
how to CAREFULLY crack open just about any GPS. The tool(s) necessary typically
are included with the battery purchase. Typically batteries run about $25
+/-.
NiCd batteries are meant to be energized once a
month so they keep active, and don't build up deposits that lead to their
premature failure.
I hope this was helpful for you.
